ABSTRACT

Five million children are born every year in Indonesia, more than half of them do not
get optimal breast milk in the first years of life. Various reasons were raised by mothers why
it was wrong to use exclusive breast milk, including the lack of breast milk production. The
empirical experience of Katuk Leaves has the effect of facilitating the production of breast
milk in relation to its role in prolactin reflexes, namely reflexes that stimulate elveolli to
produce milk. So that this research was conducted with the aim to determine The Effect of
Consumption of Katuk Leaf Extraction the adequacy of breast milk in Mother Post-Partum in
the Midwifery Room of Puri Husada Hospital Tembilahan. This type of research is Quasy
Experimental with non randomized control group pretest-posttest design, knowing the effect
on the treatment group (consuming katuk leaf extract) and comparing the group with the
control group. This study was conducted in April to May 2018. The normal post partum
mother population with purposive sampling method with a total of 40 respondents, 20
treatment groups and 20 control groups. Univariate analysis was performed to describe the
variables studied and bivariate analysis to determine the effect of consumption of katuk leaf
extract using Mc Nemar Test. The results of the study in the treatment group before
consuming Katuk Leaf Extract 25% is enough breast milk and after consuming Katuk Leaf
Extract 75% is enough breast milk, whereas in the contraception group on observation before
35% is enough breast milk and after 40% is breast milk. From the results of the Mc Nemar
test in the Control group P = 1.0 > 0.05 which showed no effect on the adequacy of breast
milk in the control group. Whereas in the treatment group P = 0.002 < 0.05 showed a
significant influence on the adequacy of breast milk in the treatment group.
