“You are disabled”, “I am differently abled”, said Dheeraj Kumar of Ara district, Bihar.

He is 24-year-old, graduated and cannot feel anything below his chest.

3 years back in 2016, while he was travelling in a car, his driver fell asleep and he met a car accident. He
was taken to the nearest hospital. Doctors said that it was a normal injury. Later, he was taken to Patna
hospital, there doctors declared that he cannot walk, but he was kept in dark about the fact that he
cannot walk for 7 months.

After knowing the fact, he remained disturbed for 1 month, he didn’t come out of the house. All his daily
works were done by his family. Then after some time he saw people like him are also living their life
happily. He met few of the others like him which encouraged him a lot that if they can do then why he
can’t?

He came out of the house. He went to Orissa for rehabilitation. There he learned how to do the daily
works by himself. He felt motivated and there he started playing basketball with others like him. He
participated in the national level basketball game from Orissa team for the first time. He also learned
how to do exercises to keep his muscles working and to strengthen his muscles. And just because of this
exercises now he can feel his urine pressure.

Dheeraj can now play rugby, basketball, can do his exercises, can do all his daily works by himself. He is
married now. He has a wife and they are very happy

He never gave up. He said, “The day when I heard people speaking at my back that he cannot do
anything, he is imperfect, that day I decided I am going to live the life of myself. I am not going to be
that perfect person for someone. Because I wanted to feel perfect from within. I am just going to take
this moment and I will make it perfect for myself.”
