Arcane Magic, Divine magic and Psi are the same underlying power.

They are just taught differently and have slightly different spell lists.

To use any casting power, one must be Awakened.

Awakening is usually by done by a ritual initiation performed by an

initiator upon his initiate apprentice.

Awakenings can happen naturally without an intiator at times of high

stress or from exposure to an extreme Mana Zone, or from extended personal
meditation.

Those Awakened without approved initiation and training of the Mages Guild or the
Church Leadership are considered "Warlocks" or "Witches" .. and are under death
edict.

Mana is like the force, growing naturally and being stored in all living
things.

When casting a spell, Mana is drawn from the casters personal Mana pool.

With training skilled casters learn to channel Mana from the surrounding
area directly into their personal Mana pool allowing the use of powerful spells.

Different geographic areas have differing levels of Mana.

Mana levels also flucuate due to times and seasons and celestial events.

Castors can not know the exact amount of mana in a surrounding area, but a
succesful castor check gives the general catagories of none, low, medium,
high, or extreme.

If a caster atempts to cast a spell that requires more Mana than his current
Mana pool, the required Mana is ripped instead from the casters Health and he can
injure himself or even die.

A caster channeling external Mana, does not know the exact amount of mana that
is available or will be channeled on each cast, so every high level spell is risky.

Evil rituals exist that make the lost Health of the recently killed available
as Mana to the caster.

Advanced casters can also learn to channel Mana directly from other living people.

Stealing Mana from an unwilling person is considered evil, the victim can attempt
to resist.

An intimate bond is created and the victim is fully aware of who is attempting to
access their Mana.

Crystals and Gems can store Mana, and are very valuable to casters.

Casters can attune a specific crystal or gem, and its Mana storage is now
considered as part of his personal Mana pool.
