AFFINITY is a superbly-bred mare, being by one of the world’s greatest-ever sires and broodmare
sires, Sadler’s Wells. Also, she is a half-sister to the world champion and multiple Group 1 winner
Soviet Song, as well as the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle winner, Penzance. Trained for the Club by the
late Sir Henry Cecil, Affinity came to hand early on in her three-year-old career and was placed in
all six starts for the legendary trainer, winning on her first attempt in handicap company. Affinity
stayed middle-distances very well and she has the potential to become a leading broodmare. Her
second offspring, Zest, won her maiden as a two-year-old and went on to score again at three,
four and five, before adding black type to her pedigree by coming second and third in Listed races.
Her third foal, Harmonica (see page 6) won two races and achieved black type when finishing
third in an Italian Listed race at the end of 2018, helping to confirm what an excellent broodmare
Affinity has become.

MADISON is the unraced sixth foal out of the former Club broodmare, Kalinova, who was a younger Red
Ransom half-sister of the Club's five-time Group 1 winner, Soviet Song, and Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle
winner, Penzance. Kalinova showed sufficient promise at two to warrant an early entry in the Group 2
Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, but she was diagnosed with kissing spines (interference between
adjacent vertebrae) and was retired to the Club's breeding programme without having raced. Of
Kalinova's five foals to race to date, her third foal, Stars Above Me (Exceed And Excel) has proved her
best to date, winning once for Roger Charlton at two, before switching to the US midway through 2014
and winning a valuable sprint at Saratoga when trained by Graham Motion. Madison was in training
with Julie Camacho, and showed promise, but niggling soundness issues prevented her from racing.
Also, as one by the prolific and popular sire Mastercraftsman (2yo champion and Irish Guineas winner),
she was a logical addition to the breeding programme and is currently in foal to Coolmore sire Zoffany,
who stands for a fee of €25,000.

success with the Kalinka line over the years. Although not the biggest, Marlinka was a very fast
two-year-old and won three times over five furlongs in her only season of racing, taking a maiden
by six lengths, followed by a run in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, a conditions
race win at Windsor, and she gained full Black Type with a Listed race victory in France. Marlinka
has had an incredible start to her broodmare career, with her first offspring, Judicial, winning
twelve races to date and being rated as high as 109 in his career so far. However, Marlinka's
second offspring, Marsha, hit even greater heights, winning at two, and then claiming the Group
1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp at Chantilly in October 2016 as a three-year-old, and the Group
1 Nunthorpe Stakes as a four-year-old.

MARSEILLE is the third foal out of the Club's speedy juvenile Listed winner Marlinka, who is from the
well-known and highly-successful Kalinka line. Marlinka has developed into one of the Club's best
broodmares to date, having produced three winners (all over sprint distances) to date, including the
dual Group-1-winning sprinter, Marsha, and the prolific Judicial, a Group 3 winner who in the summer
of 2019 recorded his twelfth win in Club colours. Marseille added her name to the long list of the
Club's homebred winners when prevailing in a Newcastle maiden in the spring of 2017, and was rated
an above-average 74 at her peak. By the top-class miler Excelebration, who has himself produced

always showed trainer James Fanshawe plenty of ability at home, and she was given an entry in

her best form was unquestionably on this surface. She is an exciting addition to the Club's breeding

Stakes and the Phoenix Stakes as a juvenile, followed by the Irish 2,000 Guineas, the St James's
Palace Stakes and the Diamond Stakes as a three-year-old. He chased home the great Sea The
Stars in the International Stakes and the Irish Champion Stakes, before finishing fourth in the
Breeders' Cup Mile. He has become a great stallion, with multiple Group 1-winning miler, Alpha
Centauri arguably being his best progeny, along with The Grey Gatsby, St Leger winner Kingston

MAYSON was always a decent sprinter, but enjoyed his greatest year in 2012, when he won the
Abernant Stakes, the Palace House Stakes, and the July Cup in the same year. He finished off
his career with a narrow defeat in the Prix de l'Abbaye, where he was beaten a neck. He
immediately retired to Cheveley Park Stud and has developed into a quality stallion, breeding
tough, sound horses. Laugh A Minute is one of his highest earners, along with Zap, Global
Applause, Clubbable, and Dance Diva. Despite his consistency, his price has remained pretty
static throughout his career, and this looks an excellent nomination for Roubles.

SEA THE MOON was best known on the track for winning the German Derby by 11 lengths. His
family is quite unique, in that his dam was an unraced sister to two German Derby winners and a
German Oaks winner; it's quite unusual for so many winners of one type of race to be in the same
family. Sea The Moon covered his first book of mares in 2015 and stands in the UK at Lanwades
Stud for £15,000. He is very much an up-and-coming sire, with his first crop of two-year-olds only
reaching the racecourse last year, but classy early winners, which include the Listed-class Pondus
and Group 3 winner, Hamariyna.

SHOWCASING was a high-class sprinter as a two-year-old, and is known as an excellent source

of two-year-olds. He is a son of Oasis Dream and is out of Zafonic mare, Arabesque, making him
a half-brother to another sire, Camacho. Showcasing’s best progeny include Group 1 winner Quiet
Reflection and Group 2 winner-turned-sire Tasleet, and the dual Group 1-winner Advertise is his
highest profile representative to date. He began his career at stud in 2011 for a fee of £5,000,

good stallion. He won five of his seven races, and remained unbeaten as a two-year-old. His Group
1 victories include the Prix Jean Prat and the Prix Jacques le Marois. His best progeny include the
Lockinge winner Mustashry, the well-travelled Grade 1 winner Blonde Me, French 1,000 Guineas
winner Precieuse, Australian winner Gallic Chieftain, and the more familiar Desert Skyline and
Making Light. Tamayuz stands at Derrinstown Stud in Ireland, and his fee has hardly changed

starts as a juvenile, including the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh. He failed to win as a three-year-
old, but was not beaten far by Frankel in the St James's Palace Stakes (the closest a horse got to
Frankel after his debut), and was just a head off winning the Prix Jean Prat. In his first season as
a stallion with runners, he sired three Royal Ascot winners in 2015 (Illuminate, Washington DC,
and Waterloo Bridge). Other progeny of note include Ventura Storm (Italian Derby winner), Fleeting,
Main Edition, and Foundation. He has stood at Coolmore Stud throughout his career, and has
also sired plenty of winners over hurdles.

This is a quality foal. He moves straight and well, and
is a very good walker. He is a reasonable size for his
age and has enough bone. He's certainly a nice size
with plenty of scope. His conformation is correct and
he has a lovely temperament, which counts for so
much. We are delighted to have him and Marlinka
here at Furnace Mill Stud, and we will watch his
career with interest.

This foal is doing very well, and is thriving with his
foster mare, Rosie. At this stage, he seems to be the
most forward of Sistine's previous foals, although
Viola was not dissimilar. He has a good attitude and
laid back temperament. This could be down to the
influence of Galileo (sire of Gleneagles), who tends to
produce level-headed horses. His conformation has
always been basically correct; he's straightforward
and a well-balanced colt. He has a very good hind leg
and well-developed hind quarters. The last foal we
liked this much was the great Marsha, so let’s hope
this colt is even half as good as she was!

Report written by Trish Brown. Foal currently
based at Furnace Mill Stud, Worcestershire.
This foal has developed into a strong, sprinting type
of foal, with a very good backside on her and strong
forearms and gaskins. She is now big enough for her
age and has good bone. She is a very good walker.
Her neck needs to develop, as it is a little scrawny
(her mother's is a bit that way), but it is definitely
improving. At present, she has slightly small feet
which, again, I think will improve. She is a nice first
foal.
