1.0 OBJECTIVE:

To Define Procedure for Validation of compressed air and nitrogen for verification of Carbon
Monoxide.

2.0 SCOPE/Reference Standard:

This SOP is applicable for Verification of Carbon Monoxide for Compressed Air and Nitrogen at Site
for'the following range
Range: At Site - 1 to 30 PPM
Range Standard Equipment Used

'100 to 1500 ml/min Compressed Air KiV Nitrogen

100 to 1000 ml/min Compressed Air KiU Nitrogen

1 to 30 PPM Gas Detector Tube

4.4 Procedure

4.4.1 Open the compressed air or nitrogen valve and let the air or nitrogen to be
drain out for 1 minute.
4.4.2 Connecl the outiet of the sample point to the inlet of the compressed air kit
with the necessary pipe connection.
4.4.3 Open the air or nttrogen supply valve with the minimum pressure to the
compressed air kit.
4.4.4 Opercle a pressure reducer with gauge with flow meter to compressed air or
nitrogen line and adjust the flow meter to flow rate of 'lO0 ml/min.
4.4.5 Break tips off a fresh detector tube in the tube tip breaker and insert a tube
into a tube holder.
4.4.6 When breaking the tube ends, keep away from the eyes. Do not touch the
broken glass tube, pieces and reagent with bare hands.
4.4.7 Attach the rubber tube holder to the flow meter outlet pipe.
4.4.8 Turn on the valve and confirm the flow meter set to 100 ml/min.
4.4.9 Total Sampling Volume 500 ml.
4.4.10 Connect the Gas Detector tube to rubber tube holder and wait for 5 min. The
sampling time represents the time necessary to draw the air sample through
the gas detector tube.

4.0 PROCEDURE:

4.'l Principle of Validation:

The purpose of this test is to verify the content of carbon monoxide in compressed air or nitrogen.

4.2 Safety.
4.2.1 Use required personal protective equipments.
4.2.2 Follow all health and safety relevant precautions & instructions

4.3 Preparation of Set Up

4.3.1 Clean the instrument & check the physical condition. lf it is OK then go for the
following Compressed Air or Nitrogen Validation procedure,
4.3.2 Ensure firmness and correctness of connection as per setup.

4.4.11 As soon as sampling time of Approx. 5 min has elapsed turn off the valve and
remove the tube from the tube holder and then read the color change layer
immediately.
4.4.12 lf carbon Monoxide content present Then color change from White to
Brownish Green.
4.4.1 3 Record the observation on raw data sheet and total concentration of carbon
Monoxide shall be complies as per acceptance criteria.
5.0 DISTRIBUTION(S):
This SOP shall be distributed to Compressed Air Validation. / Subsidiary site.
