B- Professional Information

1 – Overall aims of course


This course aims to acquire the student to learn General Arrangement of different type of
Commercial Ships, and basic design of a ship in preliminary design stages taken into
consideration interior ship divisions, optimum principal dimensions, ship's safety, Ship
motions, Etc. Methods of ship design according to ship's fuctions such as Fishing vessel,
Tugs.Container, Weight estimation for ships , and ship vibrations. Investigate ship tender
design presses.

2 – Intended learning outcomes of course (ILOs)


a- Knowledge and understanding:
The course enable the student to :
a1- Recognizing the fundamental of ship design.
a2- Recognizing the ship safety
a3- Recognizing method of design based on ship's functions
a4- Recognizing methods to estimate weight of ship's elements.

b- Intellectual skills
The student will able to :
b1- Establish the basic requirements of ship design
b2- Differentiate between the methods of ship design.
B3- Choose the suitable way of utilizing of steel weight during ship design stages
B4- how to design a vessel for the require function and safety

The course enable the student to :
C1- Deal with the ship design in preliminary design stages
C2- Design of vessel based on its function
C3- How to estimate ship weight in design stages and in deferent load conditions
