1. ​Please describe one project or research that you focused on since you joined IIT Bombay. Must include role you played,
difficulties, learnings and reflection. (about 500 words)
During my third year summer working at ​Siemens Technology​ had given me a chance to apply my academic skills to
solve real world problems. For searching R package or function on google for specific work is time consuming. One
needs to go through the whole documentation of a specific package to get the relevant function.So my project is to make
this search easy and time efficient.Given an input text the system should suggest the relevant R package and in that R
package it should also suggest the useful function of that package.So I created a ​search engine ​for R packages and
functions using natural language processing (NLP).First what I did I created a python script which can extract R
packages and functions description from their reference manual (pdf).To select the best model for document similarity
I studied various models related to topic modeling​ ​involving ​BIDAF​, ​Graph Convolution Network, Latent
Dirichlet Allocation​ and NMF and came up with a suitable mode. Finally I Built a document similarity model which
can check the similarity between the two documents. But the difficulty here is that the dimensions of the document
matrix is big. So because of this the searching time was around ​ 10 seconds​. So to optimize the model I tried to reduce
the dimensions of document matrix to an averaged vector.After optimization I succeeded in reducing the searching time
from 10 seconds to around ​0.5 seconds​ for functions and packages.To check the accuracy of model I created a dataset
of keywords of description using ​RAKE library​. And tried to feed those keywords into the document similarity model
and the accuracy was around 78%.To take the feedback of model from employees of Power department of siemens in
germany. I created a User interface using ​flask​ which takes keywords and suggest the functions and packages.Through
this project I learned a lot about NLP and Deep Learning. Also I learned about ​Product optimisation solutions which
enable changes or adjustments to be made to a product. This can make it more efficient, cost effective, desirable or
innovative. I also got introduced to some of the advanced topics like Graph convolutional network.

2. ​Please describe what you would like to contribute through the position you are applying in Sony, from the aspect of
knowledge/skills or experience. (About 500 words)

quote has always been inspiring in my life.I believe learning is not confined to childhood or the classroom, but takes
place throughout life and in a range of situations. I will bring my unique vision to your company. I am experienced in
the many areas related to Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Programming, software development, Data science etc.
During my second year summer I accepted an Internship as a ​PROGRAMMER ANALYST​ at Nucleus Software which
is a financial firm where I created deep learning models for their product “FinnOne Neo”. To fulfill my passion I
accepted an Internship as a​ research engineer​ at Siemens Technology during my third year summer. To explore
more in the field of data science currently I am working with Prof. Amit Sethi (IIT Bombay) working in computer vision
on “Interactive Image segmentation for medical images”.
I understand and perform an exhaustive study of the problem. If needed, I do some pencil and paper work.I identify the
crucks of the problem as it helps me when I’m going to find a solution to the same. I do apply the concepts that I know
and try to solve the problem without complicating it much in all respects.
I survey the literature and go for the best methods having more coverage.I take the help of the tools provided by SONY
and test with intuition and experience.I try to introduce reliable and robust novel techniques if necessary at any stage.
At any stage, If needed I will try to get help from my good colleagues around me as I can always keep good relation with
them.I am looking to apply my software skills and abilities to a challenging, growth-oriented position with a company
like Sony. Sony offer a very competitive and collaborative working environment and a socializing culture. This
Programme is an ideal start for my long-term goal of working in a company like Sony. I am confident that my ability to
adjust in new environment will enable me ramp up quickly in this position so that I could begin making an impact as
soon as possible.
