Guidelines for Writing Course Reports

Structure, Writing Style and Typing Requirements

Structure:
1. The cover page of the report/paper should include the following information:
 The title of the report/paper reflecting the theme of the report and the
organization/company if it constitutes the focus (in the upper third of the page).
 Name of the student (in the middle of the page).
 The course name followed by the date (month and year), on two separate lines to be
placed in the bottom of the page.
2. Table of contents (if the report is more than 10 pages) should come next and includes titles in
the text and corresponding page numbers.
3. Report body
 Introduction
 Main components of the report topic and its sub elements
 Conclusion
4. References (for the term/project papers) should be placed at the end of the paper/report.
References should follow the format used in the course outline.
5. Appendix

Writing Style:
1. Formal and proper English should be used.
2. Be concise and precise in writing sentences.
3. Avoid long, complex sentences and redundant meanings.
4. Each paragraph should handle an integrated idea.
5. Avoid the one-sentence paragraphs.

6. Proper use of commas, periods, question marks and the like is required.
7. Use main headings in the center of the page parts and subheadings on the sides for major
points within parts.
8. Use consistent sequencing for coding of points/elements (numbers or alphabets) in the
text.

Typing Requirements
1. Use one (1.5) space all way through the entire paper/report.
2. Font requirements are as follows;
- Use “Times New Roman” font
- Centered titles : 16 bold
- Side subtitles : 14 bold
- Text : 12
3. Use upper and lower margins: 3 cm
4. Side margins: 2.5 cm
5. Typographical mistakes are absolutely not allowed.
