Leadership and Organizational Behavior

As an organizational behavior consultant, I understand that all areas are critical, but for the sake
of evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of a firm, I would choose psychology. Psychology is
the study of human brains and how people make their decisions. One of the major focuses on
organizational behavior is how people interact with each other, and how relationships in the
workplace affect the performance and productivity of a firm. The study of psychology in relation
to organizational behavior help the parties to appreciate workplace relations, attitudes, and
behaviors. The goal of understanding human minds and behaviors is to help the management
maintain greater happiness, job satisfaction, and mental wellbeing among the workers. As a
consultant, I would recommend changes in hiring practices, training, workplace communication,
as well as management, all of which significantly impact the overall employee attitude and
motivation.
The area of psychology is not concerned with how the employees interact with the business
itself, but with how the chemistry among them and how they utilize each other’s to make an
impact, both within and outside the organizational premises. I would choose psychology over
social psychology because unlike social psychology, it deals with individual minds other than
team minds. Before someone becomes a success in a team, they should be intrinsically motivated
to be part of it and to make a win for an organization.
Hello Ernest,
Happy New Year!
I agree with you that sociology is an important area in organizational behavior. Sociology helps
in understanding the climate, culture, and diversity as integral factors in the success of any firm.
Sociology also describes how an organization adapts itself to survive amidst competition.

Psychology is a vital area in organizational behavior as it helps the management to understand
how to keep the employees motivated and united for a purpose. I agree with you that it is through
psychology we get to understand people and thereon develop leaders.
