Overview
With increasingly tight project schedules and profit
margins, Owner Operators, EPCs and fabricators need
to achieve consistently rapid, right-first-time project
execution. Structural steelwork is a major element
in all types of plant design but it can account for a
disproportionate level of construction problems, rework
costs and delays. AVEVA Bocad Steel solves this imbalance
by providing an extensive range of general-purpose
functions for structural steel detailing; AVEVA Bocad
Onshore further extends these by adding a suite of
functions and library objects specifically aimed at the needs
of the onshore plant industry for structures such as towers

Readily integrated
z AVEVA Bocad Onshore integrates with all multi-discipline
3D plant design systems, including AVEVA’s. Design
collaboration and clash checking with architectural,
mechanical and plant design systems enable early
elimination of construction problems.
z Steelwork design model data is exchanged with AVEVA
PDMS and AVEVA E3D through a standard AVEVA Bocad
Steel interface, making it immediately available for routine
clash checking and change management using AVEVA’s
Compare & Update facility. This supports efficient,
collaborative project development by all engineering and
design disciplines.
Project optimised
z The versatility of the product enables users to execute
a wide range of sizes and types of project with equal
efficiency. Interoperability, not only with design and
analysis systems, but also with ERM, ERP, MRP and MIS
business systems, enables consistent data flows through
all project processes. For example, this enables early
planning and robust control of materials procurement.
z Sophisticated built-in plate and bar nesting functions
not only minimise cutting time and material wastage
but, combined with MTO/BOM reporting, enable more
accurate steel estimation and procurement.
z Recognising that welds are safety-critical features, AVEVA
Bocad uniquely treats welds as individual tagged items.
This facilitates regulatory compliance, and supports
clients’ own inspection regimes. It also enables accurate
calculation and provisioning of weld consumables during
fabrication and construction.

z Used with AVEVA Bocad Steel, AVEVA Bocad Onshore
provides best-in-class support for the most efficient
fabrication and construction processes. Real-time
association between the 3D model and the 2D
deliverables eliminates sources of error and rework by
generating the deliverables direct from the project model.
z Uniquely, AVEVA Bocad requires no manual clean-up work
on the majority of production drawings, and very little
even on the most complex designs. Production drawings
are fully detailed and shop-ready, ensuring accurate
production processes.
z Digital manufacturing data can be transferred to all major
types of CNC process machinery and welding robots for
more production automation. It can also be sent to AVEVA
Bocad NC™ in the workshop to change or add missing
elements and further optimise the fabrication processes.
