Microcontroller-Driven Lathe Innovation

This document describes a project to modernize a lathe machine using a PIC microcontroller. A team of 7 students and 1 professor from SNS College of Technology in India developed a lathe that uses a PIC microcontroller to automate the machining process. The microcontroller controls a bi-directional motor to rotate the lathe in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. This allows the lathe to operate automatically, reducing the workload for workers and risks of injury. The new automated lathe is called a Modernized Microcontroller Numerical Control (MMNC) Lathe, with the goals of reducing labor and saving time in machining processes.

Abstract
Lathe Machining is one of the most important material removal method in the
technology of Manufacturing. It is commonly used for drilling, sawing, shaping, planning,
reaming and grinding. For doing this process we are using a manual effort to done the
work for example we can use the manufacture of motor bodies this is done by manually
for shaping in a different ways by the worker. The worker will take a minute to complete
single motor body he has to do work continually until the motor body get ready.
To reduce the work of the worker we can use a pic programing language to complete
the work we can fix a bidirectional motor on the lath bed so that we can connect it to
apron by a source of belt to rotate in a constant manner the pic microcontroller will give
the command to a bidirectional motor to work in clockwise or in anticlockwise directional.
The main source of doing this process to reduce the work of worker and control the
injuries done by a machine for labour. By doing this work is reduced for worker he wants
to only keep the motor body in the headstock and to fix it the remaining work will
automatically done by the pic microcontroller. Hence the new machine is renamed as
Modernized Microcontroller Numerical Control (MMNC) Lathe. Outcome of the process is
to reduce the work and to save time.
