I love the article by Susan Dynarski in The New York Times, 22nd November

2018, Laptops are great, but not during a lecture or a meeting. This article is about a
teacher that complaining the using of laptops by the students in the lecture. So here,
I am agree with this article and I think laptop should be banned from entering the
lecture.

I agree that the students do not use the laptop effectively. Based on the research,
our attention in the class is only for twenty minutes. This is so true. During my last
English lecture, my classmates brought in the laptops. At first they paid attention to
the teacher. Later on, they were playing online game together instead of opened the
lecture notes. I was so angry that time. How can they do that while the teacher is
teaching right in front of them. For me, this is so rude. The teacher is giving the
knowledge but the students are doing the useless thing.

Moreover, although the laptops are categorized as the expert electronic in this
era, laptops can also make us be a disrespected person. I can feel very sleepy in the
classroom when I just concentrate to the laptop and not making any movement.
Consequently, I sleep in the class and this make the lecturer feels that I do not
respect him because I am sleeping in the lecture hall. This is because the oxygen
can not flowing smoothly to my brain because I am just looking at the screen.

“Because students can type faster than they can write, the lecturer’s words flowed
right to the students’ typing fingers without stopping in their brains for substantive
processing“. This statement is very true. Based on my experience, my friend who
used to type has short-term memory than me who used o write has long-term
memory. He did not remember what the issue that the lecturer highlighted outside
the notes. Thus, he could not remember the clue that had been given by the lecturer
for the examination question. Consequently, his grade declined as he could not do
well in the examination.

Taking all these points into consideration the laptop should be banned from
entering the lecture hall. I am very enjoying reading this article. It makes me to think
critically during the class. By this, I can improve myself to pay more attention in the
class.
