Does anyone know why we turn the clocks back?

Why do we do this? Is there a scientific reason behind it all? Any idea what BST stands
for? What do people think about it today?

Well, for the record let´s just say that BST stands for Daylight Savings Time and it is a
period in summer when the clocks go forward by one hour. What that actually means is
that we see more sunlight. In October what happens is that the clocks go back for the
winter months.

According to some it was Benjamin Franklin who first proposed the idea back in 1784.
Others will argue that it was George Vernon Hudson then New Zealand entomologist
and others say it was the builder William Willett. Some say it was actually during the
First World War that the Germany army turned the clocks forward to save energy. It
seems to me as if opinions are all fairly mixed….

Do you think that changing the clocks twice a year upsets the natural rhythm of sleep?
Do you think people can have some sort of health problem as a result? Would people
generally prefer to stop doing this? How would this affect agriculture? How about any
other sectors?
