Answers
(1) 17

We can count the triangles one by one with the help of the following figures. 17 triangles in the
given figure.

(2) 15

Step 1
Let us count the number of blocks in the given figures:
1st: 1
2nd: 3
3rd: 6
4th: 10

Step 2
If we observe carefully, the number of blocks in every figure is increasing by a count of 2, 3, 4 and
so on.

Step 3

From 3 rd to 4 th figure the increment in number of blocks is 4, so from 4 th to 5 th figure the

increment will be 5. This means, the next figure will have 10 + 5 = 15 blocks.

(3) 28000

Step 1
Rounding off 39 and 702 individually to their nearest tens gives us 40 and 700 respectively.

Step 2
Multiplying the numbers, we get 40 × 700 = 28000

Step 3
Hence, the product estimated by Sunil is 28000.

(4) 46462

Step 1
Let us subtract the first number from the second number:
42462 − 40462 = 2000

Step 2
Similarly, we need to subtract the second number from the third, third number from the fourth,
fourth number from the fifth and so on.

Step 3
It is clear from the above steps that there is a difference of 2000 between each consecutive
number in this series. Hence, the missing number would be:
44462 + 2000 = 46462

(5) 94 cm 2

Step 1
The given shape is a cuboid which is made of several small cubes.

Step 2
Since all edges of small cubes are of 1cm, we can easily find the width, height and length of bigger
cuboid.

Step 3
Height of cuboid = 1 × 4 = 4 cm.

Step 4
Similarly, width and length will be 5 cm and 3 cm.

Step 5
Surface area of cuboid,
A = 2 × (width × length + length × height + width × height)
⇒ A = 2 × (5 × 3 + 3 × 4 + 5 × 4)
⇒ A = 2 × 47
⇒ A = 94 cm2

(6) 840

Step 1
We have been told that ♥ × 6 = ♣. This means, 1 club is same in value as 6 hearts.

Step 2
We have also been told that ♣ − ♥ = 600. This means that:
Value of 1 club − Value of 1 heart = 600

In the first step, we learnt that the value of 1 club is same as the value of 6 hearts.
Combining these two facts, we can say that:
Value of 6 hearts − Value of 1 heart = 600

This means, the value of 5 hearts is 600.

Step 3
1 600
If the value of 5 hearts is 600, then the value of 1 heart will be of 600, that is, = 120
5 5

Step 4
Going back to what we learnt in step 1, the value of 1 club = 120 × 6 = 720

Step 5
This means, the value of 1 club + the value of 1 heart is = 720 + 120 = 840

Step 6
Now, the value of ♣ + ♥ is 840.

(7) 17 th and 18th

Step 1
Let us look at a class of 3 students:

Rank from top: 1 2 3

Students: A B C
Rank from bottom: 3 2 1

With a class of 4 students:

Rank from top: 1 2 3 4

Students: A B C D
Rank from bottom: 4 3 2 1

Step 2
Do we see any pattern here?
Yes

For each student:
Rank from top + Rank from bottom = 1 + Number of students in class
Let us verify for class of 3 students:

Rank from top: 1 2 3

Students: A B C
Rank from bottom: 3 2 1

Sum of ranks: 4 4 4

Class of 4 students:

Rank from top: 1 2 3 4

Students: A B C D
Rank from bottom: 4 3 2 1

Sum of ranks: 5 5 5 5

Step 3

Madhav and Pranav are ranked 15 th and 14th respectively from the top in a class of 31 students.
For both of them, the sum of their ranks from top and bottom will be: 31 + 1 = 32.

For Madhav:
15 + His rank from the bottom = 32.
This means, his rank from bottom = 32 - 15 = 17 th

For Pranav:
14 + His rank from the bottom = 32.
This means, his rank from bottom = 32 - 14 = 18 th

(8) 12

Step 1
Sarika has 7 pairs of white socks and 5 pairs of brown socks. The question says that he picks up
the socks without looking at their color.

Step 2
The worst case scenario here would be that she picks up all the brown socks first and then the
white ones, because after the brown one are all picked up, she can be sure that the next sock she
picks up is white.

Step 3
The total number of brown socks is 5 × 2 = 10. After 10 socks, she will have to pick up 2 socks
more to be sure she has a pair of white socks.

Step 4
From the above step, we can say that she will have to pick up 10 + 2 = 12 socks before she has a
pair of white socks.

(9) Rs. 54

Step 1

From 1 st equation, we can see that value of 4 cauliflowers is Rs. 36.

36
Therefore, value of one cauliflower = = Rs. 9
4

Step 2

From 2 nd equation we can now find the value of a watermelon as follows:

= Rs. 9 + 9 = Rs. 18

Step 3
Now, we can find value of 3 watermelons:

+ + = Rs. 3 × 18

+ + = Rs. 54

(10) c.

Step 1
A rectangle and an isosceles triangle can be used to create this figure.

Step 2
As given in question we can cut the shapes. Let us cut the triangle as follows:

Step 3
Now, we can add these triangles to the rectangle as shown below:

Step 4
Therefore, following shapes can be used to create this shape.

(11) c.

Step 1
If we look at the all the images carefully, we notice that the image

is the mirror image of the given image.

Hence, we can say that it shows the reflection of the given image over the dotted line.

Step 2
Hence, option c is the correct answer.

(12) a.

Step 1
We know that a perfect reflection is a flip over the line such that the object distance from the line is
same as the image distance from the line and the size of the image is equal to the size of the
object.

Step 2
Now, if we look at the all the options carefully, we will notice that the pair which shows such a
reflection over the line is:

Step 3
Hence, option a is the correct answer.

(13) b.

Step 1
The given sequence of images is as follows:

1st picture is vertical rectangle.

2nd picture is triangle.
3rd picture is horizontal rectangle.
4th picture is flipped triangle.
5th picture is vertical rectangle.
6th picture is triangle.
7th picture is horizontal rectangle.
8th picture is flipped triangle.
9th picture is vertical rectangle.
10 th picture is triangle.

Step 2
So we can see that every alternate image is a rectangle, and it is rotated from horizontal to vertical
and vice-versa.

Step 3
Similarly, every alternate image is a triangle, which is flipped vertically.

Step 4
Since, image before last image is a vertical rectangle next image should be horizontal rectangle.

(14) b.

Step 1
If we observe carefully, the arrows are repeating in the following way:
One up, one down, two up, two down, three up, three down and so on....

Step 2
So, by the pattern, there should be four arrows facing upward after three downward facing arrows.
The pattern will then look like:

Step 3
We are asked about the next two arrows. One arrow should face downward and the next should
face upward.

Step 4
Hence, option b is the correct answer.

(15) c. Counting by 50

Step 1
If we observe the given series of numbers, every consecutive number increases by 50:
650 - 600 = 50, 700 - 650 = 50, 750 - 700 = 50 ...

Step 2
Hence, the rule for the given pattern is: counting by 50.
