Abstract

The terms “electronic commerce” are now commonly used by business executives and
consumers throughout the world as businesses are recognizing the potential opportunities for
commerce in the on-line business environment. Consumers are increasingly adopting
electronic channels for purchasing daily needed products. Recent years have shown growing
interest of customers in e-shopping. The globalization of competition and development of
information technology have enhanced customer awareness and created a situation where
people prefer shopping online rather than migrating as online shopping provides quality
products as well as saves time.

The study is basically to know the influence of online e-shopping on the customers as
explaining online consumer behaviour is still a major issue as studies available that focus on
multiple set of variables and rely on different approaches and theoretical foundations. The
theory of planned behaviour (TPB) is used as a theoretical framework to interpret consumers
behaviour in the online environment and to study the antecedents of e-purchasing decisions.
This study adopted a quantitative methodological approach within the context of the online
CD, Books, music, magazines, surveying consumers with prior purchase experience of the
products.

Key words: E-commerce, Consumers Behaviour, Information technology, Theory of planned

behaviour.
