Define the following:

 Science

Science is defined as the observation, identification, description, experimental

investigation, and theoretical explanation of a natural phenomenon. It is a branch of

knowledge or study dealing with bodies of facts or truths systematically arranged and

showing the operation of general laws. The word “Science” came from the Latin word

scientia meaning "knowledge".

Science utilizes scientific processes or methods in acquiring knowledge

especially in researches. It continuously discovers and increases knowledge by

conducting experiments to further strengthen the reliability of results. It is also

divided into natural sciences which is regarded as the study of natural phenomena

and social sciences as the study of human behavior and society. However, in both

these divisions, knowledge is obtained through observation and must be capable of

being tested for its validity by other researchers working under similar conditions.

There are also other disciplines like health science and engineering that are grouped

into applied sciences.

Scientists make observations of natural phenomenon and then through

experimentation they try to simulate natural events under controlled conditions.

Based on observations, a scientist may generate a model and then attempt to

describe or depict the phenomenon in terms of mathematical or logical

representation. Scientist will then gather the necessary empirical evidence to

generate a hypothesis to explain the phenomenon.

 Technology
 Technology is a body of knowledge devoted to creating tools, processing

actions and the extracting of materials. Technology, which basically refers to bringing

together tools that ease creation, use and exchange of information, has a major goal

of making tasks easier to execute as well as solving many mankind’s problems. As

technology continues to advance and direct even more easiness in our lives, there is

a need to stress how advantageous it has been to our lives. Basically, it is the

application of science represented with tools and equipment that makes our lives

easier and more efficient. The term ‘Technology” is wide, and everyone has their

way of understanding its meaning. We use technology to accomplish various tasks in

our daily lives, in brief; we can describe technology as products and processes used

to simplify our daily lives. We use technology to extend our abilities, making people

the most crucial part of any technological system. Technology is also an application

of science used to solve problems. But it is vital to know that technology and science

are different subjects which work hand-in-hand to accomplish specific tasks or solve

problems.

We apply technology in almost everything we do in our daily lives; we use it at

work, communication, transportation, learning, manufacturing, securing data, scaling

businesses and even simply in our home. What I think is that technology is one of

the pillars of world development. If you remove it, everything else will fall.

 Society

A society is a grouping of individuals, which is characterized by common

interest and may have distinctive culture and institutions. Individuals involved in

persistent social interaction, or a large social group sharing the same geographical

or social territory, typically subject to the same political authority and dominant
cultural expectations. The term "society" came from the Latin word societas, which

was derived from the noun socius "comrade, friend, ally" used to describe a bond or

interaction between parties that are friendly, or at least civil.

2. Discuss the relevance of the subject in your chosen field of study

Of course, the science and technology plays a major role in Veterinary Medicine.

Veterinary Medicine is one of the fields of sciences which focuses on the diagnosing,

treating and improving the health of our beloved animals. The course aims to know

and understand animals, their anatomies, functions, their possible accumulated

illnesses and seeks of various ways of properly handling their welfare which is

directly similar to science’s primary goal, which is, to discover and understand

everything. In Vet Med, we want to seek ways on curing diseases of animals and

preventing these diseases to affect the health of our people. By knowing and

understanding everything about animal health, we will now utilize the knowledge we

had gathered and put it into practice or application. That’s the time we will use

technology to make everything faster and more effective. Surgical clamps,

microscopes, and suction machines are some of the tools and equipment used.

Even vitamins are a product of science therefore considered as technology. Because

of these, it did not only led to better treatments but also more accurate diagnosis and

increase of survival rate. Due to the endless pursuit of answers and inventions

scientists, the medical field further improved the health of animals, food production

and public health.

 3. What is the role of Science and Technology in our daily life?

We definitely live with and surrounded by science and technology. From the

moment you wake up until you go back to sleep, we utilize it as it serves its purpose

of bettering our lives. The bed you slept on, the slippers you used, the food you

consumed, the car you drove are only some of the things you used that made our

lives far more comfortable and convenient. Arriving at school, we make use of books

to supply us the information we need on our topics and if it isn’t enough, we now

resort to the Internet for a vast number of references. With that, our education and

ways of acquiring knowledge has been upgraded. Science and technology has

helped in a lot of fields including medicine, education, infrastructures and the like.

The way we live, connect, and communicate has drastically changed, with science

and technology supporting us leading to a substantial growth to our lives, our nation

and to our world.
