1. JOHN1 UNDERHILL . He married HONOR (LEONORA) PAWLEY.

2. JOHN2 "FIGHTING JOHN" UNDERHILL (John1) was born in 1597 in England. He died on 21 Jul
1672 in Killingworth, Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York (per Flushing records of the Friends).
He married (1) HEŸLKEN (HELENA) "HELENA" DE HOOCH, daughter of William de Hooch and
Govertge Emonts on 12 Dec 1628 in The Hague, Holland. She died between 01 Jan-19 Aug
1658 in Southold, Long Island. He married (2) ELIZABETH FEAKE, daughter of Robert Feake and
Elizabeth Fownes-Winthrop between 1658-Jan 1659. She was born in 1633 (probably in
Watertown, Massachusetts). She died before 04 Nov 1675 in Killingworth, Long Island.
John "Fighting John" Underhill was employed as a cadet in the guard of His excellency the
Prince of Orange in 1628 in Holland. He lived in The Hague, Holland in Dec 1628. He served in
the military about 1630 (brought to NE by John Winthrop and became one of the first paid
military officers of the colony). He lived in Holland on 26 Feb 1630 (when wife received share of
father's estate). He arrived in Boston, Massachusetts between 26 Feb-07 Sep 1630. He lived in
New England on 07 Sep 1630 (in court records at Court of Assistants meeting at Charlestown).
He was known by the title of Capt before 18 May 1631. Other: 18 May 1631 (made freeman) He
was employed as a Deputy to the General Court in May 1634 in Boston, Massachusetts. He
served in the military between 1636-1637 (Captain for Boston in Pequot War). He was affiliated
with the disfranchished from church religion in 1637. He served in the military in 1637
(discharged from further service... oredered disfranchised, put from the Catain's place and
disarmed). Publication: 26 Apr 1638 in London, England ("Newes from America" by Capt John
Underhill -his activities during the Pequot War) He owned sold house in Boston with 100 acres
of upland at Muddy River to Thomas Makepeace of Dorchester on 01 Aug 1638 in Boston,
Massachusetts. He departed from Boston, Massachusetts in Sep 1638 (for the Neighborhood of
Exeter). He was employed as a governor of Dover and Exeter for about a year between
1639-1640. He was affiliated with the acknowledged sins and errors and was received back into
church religion in 1640 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was employed as a on 5 of 2 mo., 1643,
he was elected Deputy to the General Court of New Haven in 1643 in Stamford, Connecticut.
He lived in Stamford, Connecticut in 1644. He served in the military in Feb 1644 (led men
against Indians at Greenwich). He lived in New Amsterdam in 1645. He was employed as a
appointed Sheriff of Flushing between 27 Apr 1648-24 Aug 1651 in Flushing. He was employed

Mar 1664/65 in Oyster Bay. He was employed as a appointed Surveyor of Customs for Long

1666. He was employed as a appointed High Constable and Under Sheriff of the North Riding
of Yorkshire on Long Island in 1667. He lived in Oyster Bay on 26 Apr 1667. He signed his will in
1671 in Killingworth, Long Island (ye 7th munth called, ye 12th day). He was buried in Locust
Valley, Long Island (The Underhill Burying Ground).
Heÿlken (Helena) "Helena" de Hooch lived in The Hague, Holland in Dec 1628. She was
affiliated with the joined First Church of Boston, Mass. religion on 15 Dec 1633 in Boston,
Massachusetts.
3. iii. JOHN UNDERHILL was born about 11 Feb 1642. He died in 1692 (Bible record
23rd of 10 mo., 1692; Quaker record: 28 of 10 mo., 1692). He married Mary
Pryer, daughter of Matthew Prior in 1668 in Oyster Bay (1668, 2d First day of 8th
month...at the usual Meeting House of the people of God in Oyster Bay). She
was born in 1652 (1st mo., 1652). She died in 1698 (Bible record : 29 of 1st mo.,
1698; Quaker records state it was 5th month).
John "Fighting John" Underhill and Elizabeth Feake had the following children:

MARY FERRIS.

3. JOHN3 UNDERHILL (John2 "Fighting John", John1) was born about 11 Feb 1642. He died in 1692
(Bible record 23rd of 10 mo., 1692; Quaker record: 28 of 10 mo., 1692). He married Mary Pryer,
daughter of Matthew Prior in 1668 in Oyster Bay (1668, 2d First day of 8th month...at the usual
Meeting House of the people of God in Oyster Bay). She was born in 1652 (1st mo., 1652). She
died in 1698 (Bible record : 29 of 1st mo., 1698; Quaker records state it was 5th month).

5. NATHANIEL4 UNDERHILL (Nathaniel3, John2 "Fighting John", John1) was born on 11 Aug 1690 in
Westchester, New York (now part of New York City). He died on 27 Nov 1775. He married Mary
Hunt, daughter of John Hunt and Grace Fowler on 19 Apr 1711.
Nathaniel Underhill signed his will on 25 Feb 1775 in Westchester, New York. His estate was
probated on 01 Dec 1775 (will proven; recorded in NYC in Vol 8 p320 of published wills). He
was employed as a treasurer and one of the trustees of St Peter's Episcopal Church. He was
buried (on his farm, later the property of the Lorillard-Spencer Estate, near Bronxwood Park,
Williamsbridge, now New York City).
ii. SARAH UNDERHILL was born on 09 Mar 1715. She died on 02 Nov 1805 (aged 90

died in 1761. She married SAMUEL EMBREE.
Sarah Underhill was buried in White Plains (Presbyterian Cemetery on North

iii. JOHN UNDERHILL was born on 02 Aug 1718. He married ANN ELIZABETH
"ELIZABETH" BOWNE. She was born in 1722 in Flushing, Long Island (13 June or
19 Dec). She died on 16 Aug 1786.
