5) i)A is closed iff A contains all its ___________

ii) ____ has no limit point
1) Open Set

Definition :

Let (M,d) be a metric space A be a subset of M . Then A is said to be (M). If

for every x Є A there exist a positive real number are such that

B (x, r ) ⊆ A.

2) Subspace

Definition :

Let (M , d) be a metric space . Let M1 be a non empty subset of M.

Then M1 is also a metric with the same metric d. we say that (M1, d) is a sub space of
(M, d).

3) Closure

Definition :

Let A be a subset of a metric space ( M , d) the closure of A denoted by Ᾱ is

defined to be the intersection of all closed sets which contained A . Then Ᾱ = ∩ { B / B is
closed in M and A ⊆ B}.

4) Limit Point

Definition :

Let ( M , d ) be a metric space . Let A ⊆ M . Let x Є M . Then x is called a limit

point or accumulation points of A. If every open ball with centre x contains at least one
point of A different from x.

B ( x , r ) ∩ ( A – { x } ) ≠ ∅ for all r > 0.

The set of all limit points of A is called the derived set of A and is denoted by
D (A).

5) i) A is closed iff A contains all its limit point

ii) Z has no limit point
