Title : Sanitation Improvement in Indonesia with the Community-Based Total Sanitation

Government Program with International Organizations

Abstract : Drinking water, sanitation and hygiene are three aspects that remain a challenge for
Indonesia. To overcome this problem, the Indonesian government created a program called
Community Based Total Sanitation which was then supported by UNICEF and USAID. The main
focuses in this program is to create a better community with good sanitation. The goals are Open
Defecation Free (ODF), wash hands with soap, and provide a good drinking water for household.
UNICEF and USAID also have their own sanitation programs, WASH and IUWASH, which also have
been implemented in Indonesia.
