Personal injury can result from applying air pressure without the lock
ring securely in place.
If the lock ring is not secure, the end plate and discs can suddenly come
out with great force.
Make sure lock ring is securely in place before applying air pressure to
clutch pack.
1. The operator should lower the grapple and the decking blade to the ground.
◦ Push the transmission speed upshift control switch into the fifth gear position.
◦ Operate the engine at high idle. Monitor the gauge for the torque converter oil
temperature that is on the dash panel. Reduce the engine speed and shift the transmission
into the NEUTRAL position when the gauge enters the high temperature area. Shift the
transmission back into gear once the temperature returns to normal.
5. Allow only authorized personnel on the machine. Keep unauthorized personnel off the machine
and in clear sight of the operator.
Note: All tests and all adjustments must be made while the transmission oil is at normal operating
temperature.

Typical Example
(1) Clutch oil passage. (2) End plate. (3) Lock ring. (A) Running clearance.
1. Position the assembled clutch group so that the shaft is in the vertical position. The end plate of
the clutch that will be measured should face upward.
3. Position the tip of a dial indicator on end plate (2) and zero the dial indicator.
4. Apply air pressure of approximately 140 kPa (20 psi) to appropriate passage (1) which is in the
shaft for the clutch that is being checked.
5. End plate (2) should move and end plate (2) should contact lock ring (3). When the end plate
contacts lock ring (3), read the movement of the dial indicator. This is the running clearance of
the clutch pack.
Note: Even though running clearances on used clutch packs may be within the specification, one disc
or two discs could be worn. Disassembling the clutch pack and individually measuring each disc for
wear is the most effective way to measure clutch wear.
