THE IMPORTANCE OF THE KIDNEY AND THE URINARY SYSTEM

Summary
The kidney is part of a very important system, the urinary system, the one responsible for the excretion of
waste and extra water from the body, in this text we are going to talk about the importance about this
system and about what would happen if one of the organs starts failing.

Introduction
The urinary system is conformed by: two kidneys, 2 ureters, a bladder, a sphincter, and a urethra,

All these organs help the body to dispose the waste of the blood, these organs work together to make this
task possible, the kidney is the one that removes the extra water and wastes from the blood so it can
produce urine, then the ureters that connect the kidney to the bladder, these ureters are shape looking
organs that transfer the urine from the kidney to the bladder, then the bladder stores the urine until it’s full,
when it’s full the the sphincters relax and allow the urine to flow trough the urethra, the urethra is the duct

The kidney is one of the most important organs in this system because is the one that starts the urination
process by making the urine, if this organ fails or is damaged the extra fluid and waste build up in your
body causing swelling in your ankles, vomiting, weakness, poor sleep, and breath shortness, even though
this is one of the most common illness in this system there are some other illnesses such as: bladder cancer,
bladder pain syndrome, chronic kidney disease, colostomy, creatinine, cystic kidney diseases, interstitial
cystitis, diabetes insipidus, kidney cancer, and over active bladder among others . (www.sharecare.com /
November 1st 2018 (retrieved)).if the bladder fails can cause acute urinary retention or chronic urinary
detention, the chronic urinary retention means that you have had it for a while, meanwhile the acute one
may come suddenly, the symptoms may vary between the two cases but most of the people experience a
hard time starting the flow of urine, some have a weak flow once they start, Others may feel the need to go
but can’t start. Others have to go a lot, while others still feel the need to go right after going. You may
“leak” urine when you aren’t going because the bladder is full, this illness can also be caused by a problem
with the urethra, or if anything that gets in the way on the path from the brain to the nerves that go to
the bladder and the urethra can also cause this problem.

With the acute form, you are all of a sudden not able to go at all. This occurs even though you have a full

ureters is the ureteral obstruction; this illness may cause mild pain, fever and infection but if it isn’t treated
properly the symptoms can cause loss of kidney function, sepsis and death, this illness its treatable so it is

Urinary system: Homo sapiens sapiens vs felis catus

Every animal has an urinary system some are very similar to humans, for example cats, cats have a very
similar urinary system, both humans and cats have the same organs, the process of urination is the same, it
is located in the lower back, the only difference is that cat’s urinary system is placed horizontally which
