Data Analysis short answers

How well is the class doing as a whole?

As a whole, the class is not doing well in math. 37.5% of the students earned less than a 60% on
the assignment. An additional 31.25% earned a grade between 60 and 79%. Only 31.25% of the class
earned a grade at or above an 80%. The teacher should readdress and reassess the topics of addition,
subtraction, and division again.

Which individuals are doing well and in which topics?

There are five students that did rather well on the assignment. Juan earned a 100%; Cody
earned a 93%; and Hugh, Jack, and Jamal earned an 80%. Cody missed one addition problem. Hugh
missed one subtraction problem and two division problems. Jack missed one of each type of problem.
Jamal missed one addition and two division problems. Otherwise they did well overall with a grade of a
B or higher.

Who may need extra support and on what topics?

I have identified six students that did poorly on the assignment and earned a grade that was less
than passing. Patrick, Sarah, Molly, and Claire earned a 53% on the assignment. Nathan earned a 47%
and Luke earned the lowest grade of 40%. Patrick missed one addition, three subtraction, and three
division problems. Sarah missed one addition, two subtraction, and four division problems. Molly missed
one addition, four subtraction, and two division problems. Claire missed two addition, three subtraction,
and two division problems. Nathan missed two addition, four subtraction, and two division problems.
Luke missed three addition, three subtraction, and three division problems. This is a total of ten
addition, nineteen subtraction, and sixteen division problems that were missed by these six students.

The questions with the highest error rate were question five and eleven. Five is a division
problem and eleven is a subtraction problem. Based on averages for each of the question types, the
teacher should review all topics, but pay extra attention to division because it had the lowest overall
average of 59%. This is consistent with the topic that had the highest error rate among the students that
did poorly. The subtraction questions were also lacking in accuracy with an overall average of 68%. Even
though addition had a higher overall average (75%), it could have still been much better.
