My Favorite Netflix Originals

By Fajr Abdul Azeez

I watch Netflix probably every day. I don’t have cable in my apartment so I am always watching
streaming services. I would say if I had to choose, Netflix would be my favorite service when it
comes to the original content. These are my favorite of these originals.

“BoJack Horseman”
BoJack Horseman is not only my favorite Netflix original but one of my favorite shows in
general. This show can relate to anyone who has ever gone through a rough time. BoJack is
constantly struggling and that makes the show very relatable. Also, like most shows of Netflix,
this show is binge-worthy. Something crazy is happening every episode but it is far from being a
silly cartoon. This show has serious concepts that will be instilled in my head for years.

“On My Block”
Not going to lie, I was very close to not even giving this show a chance at all. From the title card,
it seemed like another cheesy teen show. Honestly, the only reason I turned it on was for
background noise while I was doing my hair. Suddenly, I was emersed in the show. On My Block
is filled with action, laughs, and love like every teen show we see today but for me, I liked it
because I could actually look back at my own childhood and see similarities. These characters
deal with poverty and racism all while dealing with the added struggle that is being a teenager.
Also, another major reason I love the show is because of the character Ruby Martinez. Ruby is
funny, kind, a just an all-around great person. Ruby makes the show and there would be no On
My Block without him.

“American Vandal”
This show is IT! I saved the best for last. This show is very underrated and whosever reading this
is about to be put on right now. American Vandal is a teen mockumentary about exonerating
high schoolers of raunchy crimes they did not commit. Like in a documentary there are
interviews, tons of b-roll and amazing drone shots. But, in other ways you know this is a
comedy. This teen show leaves you on the edge of your seat from episode one as you try to
uncover a mystery. This is another example of a great realistic teen show. A great teen show and
a mix of hilarious documentary satire. This show honestly speaks for itself and usually, when I
introduce someone to this show I just tell them “you have to just watch it and you’ll see.” Other
than The Office this is the show I rewatch the most on Netflix.

These are my favorite Netflix originals. From my top 3, I hope you all have been introduced to
something new. The one thing I want to be the take away from this is to watch American Vandal!
