Gomez is a student teacher at Pasodale Elementary School. I am the UTEP Field Supervisor
assigned to conduct the four required observations during her internship. It is a pleasure to be her
supervisor.

At Pasodale Elementary, Ms. Gomez is responsible for all the classroom duties of a regular classroom
teacher. She designs developmentally appropriate lessons for her second grade students and ensures
the lessons and goals are aligned to state content standards. She works very well with her
cooperating teacher, Ms. Mayfield. Most important, she maintains a safe, accessible and efficient
classroom environment for the students.

The lessons Ms. Gomez presented during her observations included technology, connections to real
life situations and connections students could make to events in their own lives. The activities she
planned were fun and engaging, building teamwork skills, but always relevant to objectives and goals
she stated in her lesson plan. In one particular lesson on the William Hoy Story, a book about the first
deaf major league baseball player, Ms. Gomez had the students completely engaged. Some of the
students were familiar with sign language, but they all had questions and made many connections
during the lesson.

Ms. Gomez has skills that will easily transfer over to a classroom of her own. She worked as a
substitute teacher for the Canutillo School district for a year and used that experience to strengthen
her classroom management skills, which are excellent. She has experience as part of a planning team
at Pasodale and relates easily to the needs of young children and enjoys the challenges of critical
thinking and problem solving. I have seven student teachers at Pasodale and Ms. Gomez prepared the
observation schedule for me, which I greatly appreciated.

Ms. Gomez is proficient with classroom technology, especially MS Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
she is also proficient in use of the SmartBoard.

I highly recommend Ms. Gomez for any teaching position for which she may apply. She possesses all
the characteristics and skills of an effective classroom teacher. She has a strong work ethic and can
work under pressure and multitask. She challenges her students to do their best but does not forget
about students’ individual learning needs.

Sincerely,

Mercedes Guzman
