GOTTLIEB WILHELM DAIMLER

Gottlieb Wilhelm Daimler was born on March 17, 1834 in the city of Schorndorf and died on March
6, 1900 in Stuttgart, Germany, at age 65 due to heart disease. He was one of the most important
engineers, builders and industrialists in Germany. He was one of the pioneers of the global
automotive industry. He studied at the Polytechnic School of Stuttgart and after graduating he
devoted himself to the manufacture of weapons. Then, he studied mechanical engineering in
France, Belgium and England. He worked in several German companies related to mechanical
engineering, where he gained experience in engines. In 1882, he and Wilhelm Maybach founded
their own industry, dedicated to the construction of internal combustion engines. Three years later,
they developed the first carburetor that allowed the use of gasoline as fuel and that engine was
used on a bicycle. Later, he built a car with wheels. He is the father of the Mercedes-Benz brand. He
was also the first to mount an engine in a four-wheeled vehicle. He is also considered the inventor
of the truck. Daimler was a very intelligent and creative man, so in 1978, he was recognized in the
Auto Hall of Fame.
