Are Traps Gay?

The term “trap” is widely used in nerd, gaming, and otaku culture. It is someone
who at first has the appearance of female but turns out to be male (Imtemper, 2018).
The term “trap” is commonly used to pertain to certain male anime characters that look
and act feminine but it is also used to pertain to actual and real people.

The sad reality is that people nowadays misuse the word “trap”. A lot of people
use the term to refer to members of the LGBT community who are attracted to men. The
term should only be used to a certain extent and is mostly only applicable to
transvestites and transsexuals. The reason to this is because a “trap” is a person who
looks and acts female, not to be confused with the term “effeminate”. Transvestites and
transsexuals usually crossdress and take the appearance of the opposite gender hence
they can be considered traps because they fit the requirement of being a trap which is
to appear female.

Now, are traps gay? If theoretical science is applied to it, traps are only 2.19%
homosexual. The reason for this is because the average size of a human penis is 5.5
inches and the average radius from the center of the glans to the foreskin is around
0.75 inches. With this information, the average volume of a penis is 9.72 cubic inches
which is only 2.19% of the average male human’s volume which is 0.0072516316 cubic
meters (Anon, 2018). Therefore, a trap is only 2.19% gay since a trap’s genitalia is only
2.19% homosexual and actually more heterosexual that homosexual.

Another proof that traps are not gay is the fact that not all transvestites are gay.
Many people may think that transvestism and cross-dressing is gay but that is not the
case in many people. Cross-dressing may be treated as a hobby or a fetish not only in
members of the LGBT community but it is also a desire that has crossed the mind in
many heterosexual individuals. Cross-dressing is grounded in a highly logical and
universal desire: the wish to be, for a time, the gender one admires, is excited by – and
perhaps loves (Anon). The desire and curiosity to become female is something that a lot
of men have once thought of. This is why people resort to cross-dressing, but it does
not mean that it strips them off their heterosexuality; you can cross-dress while still
being a straight person.

Despite being applied in real life, the term “trap” can only be appropriately used
in fictional characters after all. It is up to the artist or the cartoonist who designed the
character to decide on what the certain character looks like. If the artist wants to base
the character on a female design but add a male reproductive organ, it is completely up
to them. It is after all, their work of art. The fans of the artist may be able to judge the
artist’s art but if the artist creates a trap, the fans shouldn’t assume that the trap is gay
unless there is already background evidence saying that the trap is gay. The best way is
to assume that the trap is not gay as to avoid actual confusion to the trap’s gender.

The decision as to whether a trap is gay or not depends entirely on the trap
him/herself because they know what gender they belong to. In the meantime, while the
trap or the artist of the trap is deciding whether what their gender truly is, the safest
decision to make would be that traps are not gay. But does it even matter anyway?
People are free to love, whether the boundaries are the computer screen or their gender
or whether society would accept such an attraction or a relationship. In the end, it does
not matter whether a trap is gay or not. Everyone is free to love. It is free to love anyone
or anything.
