When I first heard about essential oils I thought that what is special about

them? Are they like other organic oils? Then I started studying the research
articles and books based on them. And when I started infusing them in
different ways in my daily life they did marvellous job. This brought up so
much curiosity in me to search about them more and more and bring that
information in front of all the people who are unaware about their verities,
sources, extraction processes and their beneficial applications. So let’s widen
up our basic knowledge to the next level.

What are essential oils?

These are the aromatic chemical liquids derived from the various parts of a
plant (like root, bark, flowers, stem, leaves, seeds or fruits) with different
properties and attributes.

And the aromatic chemical liquids are known as terpenes. It is a cellular level
compound that helps a plant :
● in its survival by attracting pollinators
● creating a its own unique scent
● protecting itself from microbes

Each plant species has a unique combination of 100 or more terpenes, which
make the scent of that species different from the scent of any other.
After extraction, essential oils contain the essence of a plant in a very
concentrated form, which means the essential oils often smell delightful and
retain the plant’s distinct therapeutic, psychological, and physiological effect
benefits for our use.

Being pleasurable and versatile these are used as remedies for ailments, used
in cosmetics and fragrances, and, increasingly, are used in the fast-growing
trend for diffusing aromas to enhance living spaces and create a sense of well-
being.
Highly concentrated, essential oils are used in tiny amounts and need to be
diluted before use in a base, or carrier oil.
