This report on Slovakia: Frozen Fish And Seafood – Market Report. Analysis and Forecast
to 2025 presents a selection of tables and figures on a wide range of industry-related
topics, covering the 28 EU Member States. The most recent data are presented where
possible, the latest reference year (for some data sets) being 2015.
Domestic production
Data on domestic production is based on PRODCOM, the European Union (EU) survey
providing statistics on the production of manufactured goods. It is based on a list of
products; for each product in the list, the statistics show the amount produced in each
year, for individual countries and for the EU as a whole.
UN Comtrade is used for trade data and is based on the 6-digit Harmonised System (HS).
HS was developed by the World Customs Organisation (WCO). The system covers about
5,000 commodity groups, each identified by a six-digit code. More than 179 countries
and economies use the system. The UN Comtrade database contains more than 3.1
billion trade records starting from 1962.
Market value is represented at *** prices. In the calculations, the market value at
producer/importer prices multiplied by margin of ***. This assessment should be used
with caution. It may be higher or lower depending on factor margins.
Price development overview is based on the industrial producer price index that
measures the gross monthly change in the trading price of industrial products. PPI is
provided by Eurostat. There are two sub-indices for the industrial producer price index,
one for the domestic and one for the non-domestic market.
When combined, the sub-indices give the change in the PPI for a given product. The PPI
measures price changes from the point of view of the producer/manufacturers of a
product. In this it differs from consumer price indices which measure the prices from the
point of view of consumers/buyers.
The index reflects basic prices, which exclude VAT and similar deductible taxes directly
linked to turnover. By contrast, any subsidies on products received by the producer
should be added. In order to show the true development of price movements, actual
transaction prices -instead of list prices- are collected.
For producer prices on the non-domestic market, the price are calculated at national
frontiers, FOB (free on board); this means that the seller pays for transportation of the
goods to the port of shipment, plus loading costs, and the buyer pays freight, insurance,
unloading costs and transportation from the port of destination to his factory. All
characteristics that determine the price of the products have to be taken into account.
This includes quantity of units sold, transport provided, rebates, service conditions,
guarantee conditions and destination.
The analysis presented in this chapter is based on the main dataset for structural
business statistics (SBS), size class data and regional data, all of which are published
annually by Eurostat.
The main series provides information for each EU Member State as well as a number of
non-member countries at a detailed level according to the activity classification NACE.
Data are available for a wide range of variables.
In structural business statistics, size classes are generally defined by the number of
persons employed.
