Mini Project Documentation Guidelines

Thesis Size

1. A thesis should be preferably not exceeding 80 Papers (Minimum: 60 papers) including


Main pages.
2. A4 (210mm x 297mm) un-ruled executive bond paper shall be used.
3. The thesis shall be printed on one side of the paper only.

Binding
Use Spiral Binding

No. of copies:
i. 3 Group copies
ii. Individual copy
Format for the Thesis
Font:
1. The font type shall be Times New Roman or use fonts that look similar.
2. The font size for the regular text in the thesis shall be 12 point.
3. The font size for chapter headings shall be 16 point and bold print and all uppercase.
4. The font size for section headings shall be 14 point and bold print and all uppercase.
5. The font size for subsection headings shall be 12 point and bold print and sentence Case.

Line Spacing

1. Spacing between the lines shall be 1.5.


2. The space between consecutive paragraphs shall be 2.0.
3. All paragraphs in the thesis must be left justified.
4. Double space shall be given between Chapter title and first sentence of a Chapter, and
Last line of a section / sub-section and the title of the next section / sub-section.
5. Use single space between the title of the table/figure and the table/figure.
6. Use two spaces between the table / caption of the figure and the next paragraph.

Margins
1. The layout should provide a margin of 4 cm on the left, 3 cm on the top and bottom and 2 cm on
the right.
i.e. Left margin space 4 cm
top and bottom margin space 3 cm
Right margin space 2 cm

Tables, Figures and Equations

1. Tables, figures and equations should be numbered sequentially Chapter-wise using Arabic
numerals. They are referred to in the body of the text capitalizing the first letter of the word
and number, as for instance Table 5.3, Figure 3.11, Equation (4.16) and it should be
centered.
2. Colour print outs of figures should be used in the thesis

Page Numbering
1. Page numbers for the preface/acknowledgements materials of the thesis shall be in small
Roman numerals and should be centered at the bottom of the pages.
2. Page numbers for the body of the thesis should be in Arabic numerals and should be kept
at the bottom of the pages in the extreme right. The pagination should start with the first
page of Chapter 1 and should continue throughout the text (including tables, figures).

Arrangement of Titles and Chapters

1. Every new chapter should be started in a fresh page with the chapter number indicated on
the top and exactly in the middle

Arrangement of Paragraph in a Chapter:

1. Each paragraph in a chapter should be properly numbered for example, 2.1, 2.2 etc., where first
digit represents the Chapter Number and second digit the paragraph number. There is no need to
indicate the number for the first paragraph in a chapter.
2. Sub-paragraphs, if any indicated as 1.1.1, 1.1.2 etc. i.e. first digit representing the chapter, the
second representing the paragraph and third representing the sub-paragraph.
3. Don’t underline the headings or subheadings or side heading. Instead use the bold letters

Photographs/Figures and Tables


1. The figures, photographs and tables occurring in a chapter may be serially numbered as Fig. 1.1,
1.2 etc., where the first digit represents the chapter, the second digit represents Figure number.
2. The photographs may be represented as Photo 1.1, 1.2 etc., the first digit representing chapter and
the second digit represents Photograph number.
3. The tables may be represented as Table 1.1, 1.2 etc., the first digit representing chapter and the
second digit represents table number

Bibliography or References:
 The following format may be used for writing the Bibliography/References.
Author Name, Title of the book or paper, Publisher name, year.

Eg:

Berry, Jason, Jonathan Foose, and Tad Jones. Up from the Cradle of Jazz: New Orleans Music Since
World War II. Athens: U of Georgia P, 1986.

(An article in a journal)


Booth, Wayne C. "Kenneth Burke's Way of Knowing." Critical Inquiry 1 (1974): 1-22. Winks, Robin W.

The bibliography list should be made strictly in alphabetical order of the name of the authors

c. Acknowledgements (optional) …with page number (lower case roman numeral no.iii)
d. Table of contents (mandatory) …with page number (… numbering to continue)

g. Abstract of the thesis … with page numbers (… numbering to continue)

Note:

1. Attach/paste a softcopy (CD)of thesis (in a cover) at the end of the book
2. Project title should be kept in the header starting from chapter- 1on the extreme
right(font size 12 upper case)
3. Footer should contain ‘Dept. Of ECE’ in the left end and page number in the right end
4. For any other queries regarding documentation meet project co-ordinators
5. It is advised to prepare a rough copy of the thesis and ppt and show it to the internal
guides for modifications and intakes before final(preparation) hard bind copy is made
