It has been a while since you have last studied history in the early levels of your formal education.
In order to refresh you of the discipline of history you will have to accomplish the activity below
as an introduction to this course and as foretaste of Readings in Philippines History through
Primary Sources.
Direction: Choose an article and a photo from any daily newspaper circulated in the Philippines
which was published on the day of your birth. You can find these in your library
(serials/archives) or in the internet. Analyze these documents using the provided matrix below and
answer the subsequent guide questions.
Guide Questions:
1. Ask your parents or guardian if they were aware of the events or issues described in your
chosen article and photo.
- As I asked my parents about this matter, they kind of shrugged off by the topic of
globalization due to the fact that what they conceived of that time was economic, political,
and day-to-day endeavor and the topic wasn’t that much of a familiar to the public.
However, due to a further discussion of the said news, my father told me of how that time
of the year, investors were coming and piling up in our country for the sole reason of
making it industrialized.
2. How the events and issues described in your chosen article or photo affected the lives of
your parents/guardian; and the society in general?
- With the news being aired out two decades ago, as time passed by, the effects of industrial
design had been felt through various markets and society in general. It had increased the
consumerism and aesthetically-designed society and the gradually increased plan of
industrializing and commercializing many things. However, as we are recognized as one
of the third world countries, a few only enjoy the luxury and advantageous side of
globalization. While, the rest have suffered the downside of it.
3. Did these events and issues described in your chosen article or photo in away way or
another affect or influence your growing up years? You may ask your parents or guardian
for more information and insight. Elaborate your answer.
- Indeed it has influenced the growing up years of the youth in general. Nowadays, every
young person of my age has been living up in this standardized society. Globalization, as
it has been felt, influenced the lives of many with its fast-paced and consumerism living.
Making it hard sometimes to cope up and live in this competitive world in all temporal
aspects.
