The proposed title for my Project Proposal: (write the proposed title for your Capstone Project in
one clear sentence):
Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain
WHYyou are choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of
inquiry connect to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an increase in the use of plastic waste in public
spaces. By focusing on a subject related to plastic waste, I was willing to investigate alternative
methods of filmmaking. I wanted to make a film that could convince the community to talk about
environmental issues and to drive that change because film is a potent medium that can
influence how people think about how they perceive the outside world.
Background:
I started creating videos when I was 6.-7 and have been producing YouTube videos for
entertainment/educational use. Besides, I've taken an elective in Video Production for the past 4
years. Therefore, I gained new insights of brainstorming ideas, create shot list/storyboard, and
so forth.
Career connections:
What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections
does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?
After I graduate high school, I am going to pursue a 1-year diploma in Film Production at
InFocus Film School. Secondly, I wanted to be a cinematographer since I have a big interest in
doing visual storytelling.
Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core
competencies will be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections:

Some subjects that are related to Earth Science 11 and Video Production 12 are listed in
the following query. In order to produce a video, I must come up with ideas for the style of movie
you want, write a script, make a shot list, and schedule days for location shooting. Geology and
geography knowledge are essential for Earth Science 11. Next, the project's core competencies
of communication, social responsibility, and critical thinking are listed. It takes a lot of
investigation, research, and pondering to produce a documentary. In fact, if the interviewee has
any reservations, pre-interviews must be conducted before the shooting. Last but not least, you
must make plans in advance because I will need to work around future holidays and bad
weather.
Capstone Presentation Medium: Select or more project mediums you wish to use to present
your project. Outline and give details about how to present your project once completed. You
may use a combination of mediums:
The description of my capstone project will be divided into 4 phases: one is the research
phase, planning, creating, and editing phases. The research regarding the negative effects of
plastic waste will be completed in a separate paper and will be part of the powerpoint slide and
As I need to gather factual observations for my project, I will need to choose five academic
sources from Google Scholar and JSTOR. Additionally, the research will cover a variety of
topics. In light of this, it will concentrate on the rising use of single-use plastic bottles in public
spaces, the effects of plastic pollution on the environment and human health, the water and
solutions," I will also need to discuss the benefits and drawbacks, as well as the immediate and
long-term effects on the environment. The sources will be cited in the Word or Google Docs
document once I've finished my research. In order to make sure that all of the information
presented in the video is coherent and to the point, I also wanted to develop an outline for it.
This means that I must write a lengthy essay with multiple paragraphs that is divided into five
parts. The paragraph will begin with an introduction about plastic waste, then move on to

discuss the effects of plastic waste on human health and the environment, explain the scientific
theory behind the water/carbon cycle in the third paragraph, discuss a solution to reduce plastic
Thirdly, this is optional; if I wanted to conduct an interview with an identifiable member of the
community, I would need to develop a long list of potential questions based on my scientific
science or health professionals. I would need to get in touch with the person and explain my
project's specifics. I have to decide between an in-person interview and an online interview after
the person accepts the offer. In addition, if I conduct the interview in person, I must locate a
quiet area where I can film the interview scene. Gathering clips will be the first step in the video
editing process after I've finished my planning and research stages. I'm going to create a script
that describes how the various parts of my video should interact with one another. I'll then begin
delivering my lines from the script while filming myself. Following that, I'll create accompanying
visual aids using the video editing programme Davinci Resolve. If required, the edits will use
pictures or videos as examples. Once I've finished audio and video editing, I'll export the video
For the technology, I will need to have a camera to record and an optional tripod. But, I also
need to have a laptop with me to edit my documentary.
Mentors/Community Connections:
For my mentors. I can ask Mr. Cawdell and Mr. Neufeld to help me with the project. My plan is to
ask them during before/after school or if they have freetime.
Project limitations:
The project limitations that I foresee is that I have vacation days on the 26th of may and
the obstacle is that I have to find a trusted person from the environment community to be
interviewed, if that’s an option.
Other considerations:

This is optional but having an interviewing scene for the documentary will be beneficial
for the project.
