ASSURE Model Instructional Plan

Topic: Land Pollution

Teacher / Instructor: Aviel Benjamin, Kayla Crooks, Kay-Anna Mason & Shanice Simpson.

Grade: 4

Subject: Social Studies

Lesson Duration: 40 minutes

Analyse Learners

General Characteristics:

The 15 students in Ms. Simpson’s class are in the age group of 9 years old. They come from different

backgrounds therefore their academic skills vary. As it related to their reading and writing skills they

vary from different grade levels.

Entry Competencies:

Since the bulk of the students have been exposed to pollution since they were young, they have a

relatively basic awareness of the subject. This age group (9) still learns by imitation. Acceptable

behavior modeling is an essential method.

Learning Styles:

Visual learning is particularly successful with this group of students since the majority of them favor

Page 1 of 10 2018
activities that incorporate visual aids.

State Objectives

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

Cognitive:

Define and use the terms recycle, reuse, reduce and waste correctly, with the aid of an audio.

Psychomotor:

Write at least three sentences about the effects of improper waste disposal.

Affective:

Work cooperatively in groups to share how they feel about the improper disposal of waste in their

community.

Select Media, Materials, and Methods

they gather information from a variety of sources about the topic.

PowerPoint- Students will participate in an icebreaker based on a PowerPoint presentation about

pollution.

Websites- Students will use goosechase.com to participate in an online scavenger hunt using the

windows desktops at the institution.

Utilise Media, Materials, and Methods

Preparing the Media/materials

Before the students approach the computer lab, the teacher will do a test run to ensure that the

computers are plugged in and are able to turn on as well as the internet is working properly so that

the activities that required internet was working seamlessly.

Preparing Environment:

This session will take place in the school's computer lab, which has been set up and loaded with 20

dell desktop computers all wired and connected to the internet, also the seats are arranged in a way

that allows each student can see the board and anything else that is displayed in the classroom well.

Page 3 of 10 2018

PowerPoint that will get their minds and body ready for the start of the lesson.

It includes statements and questions that will test their prior knowledge as well as how well they have

been observing their surroundings.

Require Learner Participation

Using a PowerPoint presentation, students would take part in an icebreaker where a virtual dice

would be created and questions would be associated with each number on the dice. There will be a

total of 4 questions so, in any instance where the dice produces a digit higher than 4, it will have to be

rolled again.
