Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s):
☐ Remembering ☐ Understanding ☒ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☒ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☒ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The productivity tool used in this lesson will support all students by providing Immersive Reader which can
help students listen to what they’ve typed, see pictures/definitions of words they’ve used, and translating to
another language. To address the UDL principles of action and expression, students will be allowed to plan
out how they want their brochure to look. Students will also be allowed to use accessibility tools if needed.
Lesson idea implementation:

To introduce this lesson, I will start by showing a picture of land, water and air pollution. I will ask students to
think about what the pictures are and what they might represent. After a minute of think time, I will call on a
few students to tell me what the pictures are and what they think they represent. I will record everything the
students say onto the Smartboard. After a couple of students have spoken, I will explain the pictures to them.
Once we have finished talking about the pictures, I will read the standard to the students and have them
repeat it back to me. This will give students the opportunity to hear what the lesson is about and read it for
themselves. After we’ve gone over the standard, I will play this video to explain pollution even more.

Basic Productivity Tools (BPT)

I will explain to the class that we will be creating a brochure about pollution on Microsoft Word. I will show
students the example I have created so that they get an idea of what they want theirs to look like. After I have
shown the brochure example, I will give students 2 minutes to plan out how they want their brochures to
look. Students will need to address the following: What is Air, Water, and Land Pollution? What are the
effects of Air, Water, and Land Pollution? What are some examples of Air, Water, and Land Pollution? And
lastly, what can you do to help pollution? Students can use this website in order to help them find
information on pollution. Students will be provided with a checklist rubric that shows everything they need to
include on their brochure. After students have had time to plan out what they want their brochures to look
like, students can grab a laptop from the class laptop cart and start working on their brochure. This lesson will
take roughly 2 class periods. Depending on how long students take to complete their brochure.

In order to extend student learning, I will have students that finish early create a poster that they can put up
somewhere in the school to spread awareness on pollution. On the poster, they can explain what pollution is
and how we can help prevent it. Students can choose to create this poster on paper or through Microsoft
Word. To conclude the lesson, I will play this video that shows students what people can do to help prevent
pollution. This video also gives a more real-life view of pollution compared to the first video shown.
Reflective Practice:

After designing this lesson idea, I feel the activities used can make student learning fun because it allows
them to create their own product. Students will feel more accomplished and proud of their work because
they created it. It also impacts students learning by showing them what pollution can do to the world they live
in. This can help students feel more motivated to create their brochure or poster to help spread awareness
around the school. To further extend this lesson, I could take the students around the outside of the school to
help pick up any trash they see. To further enhance this project, students can create an Adobe Spark or
PowerPoint presentation about their personal experiences with seeing pollution in their lives.
