Multimedia: Audio or Video Lesson Idea

Lesson Idea Name: Pollution

Grade Level/Content Area: 3rd Grade
1. Content Standard Addressed: S3L2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information
about the effects of pollution (air, land, and water) and humans on the environment.
2. Ask questions to collect information and create records of sources and effects of pollution on

the plants and animals.

3. Explore, research, and communicate solutions, such as conservation of resources and

recycling of materials, to protect plants and animals.

ISTE Technology Standard Addressed:  What would you like students to know and be
1.3 Knowledge Constructor: able to do by the end of this lesson:
Students critically curate a variety of resources
using digital tools to construct knowledge, Students will be able to research and explain
produce creative artifacts and make meaningful solutions to protect plants and animals.
learning experiences for themselves and others.
Students will be able to explain the effects of
pollution on plants and animals.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

The learning goal for students is to be able to create a video about a pollution topic and explain
their own solution to help the earth.

Selected Instructional Software Tool: Flip Video or Simple Share

Description of Software:
Create videos using a script, or add pictures, text, captions.

☒ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
I will begin with showing the students a video about pollution. After students will listen to my
podcast about the multimedia activity. Students will hear my podcast and see the video I have
created to get an idea of what they are expected to complete. Students will pick a form of pollution
and create and explain a solution to help eliminate or decrease the amount of pollution on earth.
Students will present their video or podcast to the class, and we will give feedback as a class
together on a rubric. I will conclude the lesson with class discussion and having everyone involved in
discussion.
Managing student learning:
I think the tools will let students be active social learners. Students will be able to share their ideas about
their solutions and talk about them with peers. As a teacher, I will allow students to create a script before
they use the tool. I will check the script and/or have peers check for grammar and spelling. I will have a
schedule when parts of the project are due so no student will be left behind and will have an organized plan.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:
The technology tool I chose for the students supports all students. It has captions options, and voice
recording options, as well as its easy to use and students can use it at home as well. I think this tool
supports Action and Expression of the UDL Framework. Creating a podcast or video lets student
show what they know using technology. It lets student have accesses to supportive technology.
Reflection: I think for students to be able to create their own video from learning will help them
understanding the material on a deeper level. I look forward to seeing the finished products of
students explaining their own solutions. With the video software’s chosen, there is accessibility for
students to accommodate everyone.
