How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ X Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☐ X Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ X Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.

Lesson idea implementation:
For this lesson, students will use Anchor to create a podcast discussing how pollution negatively
affects our environment. The students will be introduced to podcasting by listening to a teacher-made
podcast introducing the lesson. This podcast will include the topic of this lesson and the learning goals
for the students. The students will then receive a step-by-step demonstration on how to create their
own podcast through Anchor. While the students are creating their podcasts, the teacher will walk
around the class answering any questions that arise along the way. Once all the podcasts are finished
and published, the students will be asked to listen to three podcasts made by their peers. The teacher
will listen to the class responses and provide insightful feedback for each podcast. To conclude the
lesson, I will highlight some of the students’ work by presenting a few podcasts to the class. We will
have a class discussion about how the students felt while creating a podcast.
Managing student learning:
Anchor transforms passive learning into active learning through creation in the classroom. Instead of
learning through practice, students get to create something meaningful that represents their own
ideas. This process sparks creativity and makes learning individualized to the student. To regulate the
use of technology in this lesson, I will set a time limit. I will stop halfway through the designated time
to assess the class’s progress. I will adjust the time as needed.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
This lesson integrates the UDL principle “Engagement.” Anchor makes the process of creating a
podcast easy for students. The students are provided with an example podcast made by the teacher
and a demonstration on how to create one. Podcasting gives students creative freedom when
expressing their knowledge on pollution. It is a fun and unique way that students can share and obtain
new ideas with the class.
Reflection:
The use of podcasting enhances this lesson because students will be learning through creation.
Podcasting is a unique way to share ideas with the class. I am excited to implement podcasting into
the lesson because it is a tool that can be utilized outside of school. With the rise in podcasting, I hope
this lesson encourages my students to create more podcasts of their own and share their ideas with
the world.
