☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by teacher
direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly practice
based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.

Lesson idea implementation:
Students will work in groups to create their own podcast where they write and record their own fable.
This activity will be introduced and explored in depth so students have a strong understanding of
podcasts, fables, and morals before they begin. Students will use audio recording tools to record
their podcast after they have written and practiced their script. The teacher will approve the script
before the students record and oversee group work and technology use. The teacher will provide
feedback on the script and guide students in editing it as needed. The teacher will also provide
guidance in audio acting and how to enhance the auditory experience in a podcast. The lesson will
be concluded with the student podcasts being shared on the classroom website for classmates and
families to hear.
Managing student learning:
This is an active lesson where students must have full responsibility of creating their final product,
acting as a conclusion after passive learning as a class. The project will be done in steps before the
students record their podcast, including planning, writing, and practicing, with the teacher approving
each step as the students complete them. Students must work together in their groups to complete
this project.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:
This activity supports students with different learning needs by having several components that
students participate it. Making a story, writing a script, and recording the script are different skills, so
the students can bring their own skills and interests to their group and learn from each other. This
podcast activity supports the engagement component of UDL because students are given voice and
choice and practice self-regulation through completing the goal and assessing themselves as they go.
Reflection:
I think this activity would be a lot of fun for students and promote confidence and creativity in them
as they create a project on their own that they can share and be proud of. It would also be good for
the class to listen to all the podcasts together so students can hear each other’s stories and learn
more from each other. This lesson idea supports several aspects of student learning, such as literacy
skills, creative expression, and communication and collaboration. I like this activity because it’s
engaging and something that could get kids excited about learning.
