How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

✘ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

✘ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing

During this activity with the podcast, students will have the extra support of an adult to help them
navigate this tool. The learning goal will be posted on the board and explained to the students. The
teacher will be helping students with what to say on their podcasts, while the parent volunteer will
help students with using the podcast audio recording. Each student will create a script to complete
their podcast about what knowledge they have gained in the lesson about the holiday of Juneteenth.
The students will be given feedback on their podcasts once the script is approved by the teacher and
the audio recording is finished. Once everyone is finished, the students will pair up with a classmate
to listen to each other's podcasts.
Managing student learning:
Students will be helped to create a script that will assist them when they record their audio for their podcast.
Students will meet with the teacher one-on-one to create their script. The rest of the class will spend this time
brainstorming for their script or practicing their finished script before they record their audio. The parent
volunteer will help students once they are ready to record. This script helps students go from passive learning
to active learning by having students create their own pieces of work based on their recent knowledge gained
from the lesson.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
Podcasts allow students to practice listening as well as comprehension skills of complex texts that
can be informal or formal. The transcripts that students create are great for teachers to ensure
students have reached their learning goals. Audio Podcasting is a tool that reaches all three
principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Podcasts provide students with options for
representation, engagement, and expression. Lessons that include UDL principles enhance easy
access for all students.
Reflection:
Designing this lesson has shown me that, I feel like this would be a wonderful lesson for students to
do. This is a great holiday for students to be educated about. I can not wait to see what scripts and
podcasts that the students create. This lesson will show me what students have grasped from this
lesson and what students are not yet understanding the content.
