Selected Instructional Software Tool: Anchor Podcast

Description of Software: Anchor is a great website tool to make podcasts. Anchor allows you to record
podcast on any device for free. It is very user friendly and has many resources that are beneficial with
podcasts. It allows you to edit descriptions, titles, add music, and design it the way you want to. Anchor is
extremely efficient and adds a fun experience to making podcast. It gives you the opportunity to grow
your classroom resources. I would recommend Anchor to any teacher or person who is wanting to make a
podcast because of how easy it was to use and make a podcast.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☒ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it
via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
This lesson will begin by the students using anchor to listen to my podcast. Once they have listened to
the podcast, they will know they have to find examples of the different precipitations and find out if
they are liquids or solids. They will also be asking family members their thoughts too. This is utilizing
the technology because they are using anchor to start the lesson. The next day in class we will go over
what the students found at home for examples. We will then go over a few examples that I found for
them. I will then have the students make their own podcast using anchor. The podcast they make will
be over the different forms of precipitation and if they are solids or liquids. I will give students
feedback by filling out a rubric on their podcast. The lesson will conclude with the students all
picking their favorite form of precipitation and sharing it with the class.
Managing student learning:
This tool will cause a shift from passive to active learners by providing the students with a podcast to
just listen to and then having them do research and make their own podcast. The students will have
time to be in passive learning when they get to school and then I will have a brain break when they are
moving into active learning to give them a second to take a break.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: This technology tool supports and enhance the
learning experience for the students by giving the students a different way to learn and a more their
pace learning style. This tool is extremely supportive because there is a audio and visual
representation which will support all students. This tool also really supports the UDL framework of
Multiple Means of Engagement. This assignment and tool make a great lesson for students to be
engaged with. The students have different tasks throughout the lesson that will keep them engaged.
Reflection:
I think these will impact students learning by giving them another opportunity to learn and dive into
their information with a fun way of doing it. I am mostly looking forward to implementing the
students making their own podcast because I can’t wait to hear how they talk when they know it’s a
recording and to see all their different examples.
