☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:

The lesson will be introduced with me defining what a podcast is and what it can be used for. I will
then play them the podcast I created to show them what they will be expected to create. Students
will be made aware of their goals because I will define them at the beginning of the lesson as well as
having them on the board for students to reference throughout the process. Students will go back to
their desks and begin the process on their iPads. The students can choose any reading we have done
in class that has a lesson. Once students have chosen which story they want to use, they will write
their transcript on a sheet of paper to read while creating the podcast. The transcript must include
the key datils of the story, the lesson, and a summary of the story. Students will utilize technology,
their iPad, to create this podcast. The teacher will be walking around monitoring student progress. If
a student is struggling, teacher will help the student overcome the obstacle. Once the students have
completed their podcasts, they will present them to the class. After each presentation, the teacher
and three students will give the presenter feedback.

Managing student learning:

The lesson makes students active learners as they are doing the learning themselves. This is a student-
centered lesson where the students are discovery how to work technology and a podcast. There will not be a
time limit as I believe it is very important for all students to complete this project. If it takes more than one
class period, we will have time to work on it in class the next day. Students will submit their transcript to me
before recording their podcast so that I can make sure they have all that they need.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.

This lesson supports and enhances learning for all students. This lesson is supported by the
principles of the UDL framework. Looking at the engagement components, multiple means of
engagement, this lesson aligns very well with it. Since this lesson is student centered, the students
are more engaged in the discovery learning. Students are engaged in created a transcript as well as
creating a podcast. Another element would be choosing which story they want to make the podcast
about. Overall, this lesson is very engaging for students and teachers both.

Reflection:

I feel that this lesson will positively impact student learning. I look forward to seeing students learn
how to use the technology to create the actual podcast. Very few students have listened to a
podcast nonetheless make one. So, I am excited to see the trial and error in figuring out how to work
the technology.
