☒ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.

Lesson idea implementation:

First, the students will have already listened to my introductory podcast at home. In the classroom,
we will discuss the content and then I will walk them through how I created my podcast. Then, the
students will work in their table groups and do a newscast-style podcast about at least two things
they saw outside at recess. They will watch a video example of a kid-friendly newscast. They will
start with a short brainstorming session and then they will start using the app. There will be teacher
support as they work with the app. We will listen to each podcast as a class, and I will grade them as
we go and give verbal feedback to each group.

Managing student learning: Students will have the opportunity to brainstorming using drawing or

speaking. They will use the information they just learned to make this podcast, thus applying their
knowledge, and making the jump from passive to active learners. They will be asked to try using the
app themselves, then they may ask me a question.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
This lesson and tool is mainly focused on Multiple Means of Engagement. The students will be
learning and applying knowledge in several different settings, from being taught the information by
the teacher and applying the same knowledge to a group activity. If getting through the learning was
difficult for some, and some want to jump into action, they will have the opportunity with creating
the podcast.
Reflection: I think this activity will be great for students because it will enable them to demonstrate
both knowledge and creativity. I think this is something students can have fun with and learn from at
the same time. I would be most excited to hear the finished products from each group.
