sciences.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

I can communicate information about the basic needs of plant or animal using audio technology.
Selected Instructional Software Tool: Anchor

Description of Software:
Anchor is an easy tool worth using to make podcasts to enhance students learning by maximizing
classroom time by introducing the lesson topic before meeting for class. Anchor makes distributing
educational information to students simple. Using audio to enhance your students learning is very
important, especially in a flipped classroom, which values the maximized classroom time for
students to complete an assignment and allow students to have think time.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
☒ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing

it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
Students will create a news report on what they give their specific plant or animal. I will introduce
the activity by creating a podcast for students to listen to, providing students with guidance on what
should be included in their News Report. Before using the Anchor technology to bring their News
Report to life, students will first write a transcript. I will make the students aware of their goals by
informing students of their “I can” statement, the information they must include in their News
Report using Anchor. Students will utilize the technology by creating their own podcast News
Report. The teacher will facilitate and help the students when needed. The students will receive
feedback through an audio response to their podcasts from the teacher, and then students will have
an opportunity to present their podcasts to their classmates. The lesson will conclude with the
students sharing what they learned, what they liked, and what they did not like.
Managing student learning:
The Anchor tool used for this lesson will cause a shift in the behavior of students because they move
from passive to active learners by taking a leading role in their learning. I will allow time-on-task and
shift from passive to active learning by having set time limits for students, and students will submit
their transcripts before using the Anchor tool.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
Anchor supports and enhances the learning experience for students in the classroom, because
Anchor allows students to express themselves and their knowledge over the standard in a more
meaningful way unlike writing an essay. If a student is nervous to speak in front of the class, Anchor
is a great tool to use because students record their voices and responses. Anchor supports the
Action and Expression component of the UDL framework by allowing students to express themselves
by offering users to use transitions, music, and add voice messages.
Reflection:
I believe that the News Report activity is an amazing and unique way for students to enhance their
technology skills while demonstrating what they know about the content standard and allowing
students to be creative. I look forward to listening to my student's News Reports about the plant or
animal they choose to talk about, because I think this assignment always students to use their
creative side.
