How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply

☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:

Students will be instructed to create their own digital story of a mammal they choose. I will
introduce the tool by creating my own digital story describing what a mammal is, what a
lifecycle is, and the stages and lifecycle of a cat. Students will be aware of my goals because

they will be given a rubric with the requirements of this project. Some requirements include
describing why the animal is a mammal, describing the life cycle, and includes pictures to
model ideas. Student will utilize the technology by creating a story in PowerPoint. They must
include the page curl effect, pictures, and special elements. Feedback will be provided with
the rubric. I will conclude the lesson by having students showcase their own stories with the
whole class.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:

Students will be able to complete this assignment with a partner. Co-use of the computer will
make the task not seem as daunting. Throughout the assignment there will be verbal check in
with the class. One way I will manage the technology is by having each pair complete a
storyboard before using the computer. They must plan what they are going to do to move to
the computer.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The activity and technology tools support the learning experience of all students because
there are multiple means of representation. Students have the option to read through the
slides or listen to the slides. Some slides have more words while some have more pictures.
English language learners can read the Spanish subtitles, so they are able to understand
exactly what’s going on. When students create their own storyboards, they have the freedom
to create a story the way they want. So, if that’s a story with more words than pictures or
even a video included the student gets to represent his or her own style of learning.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

I feel like the activities will impact students learning because it’s fun and students can choose
their own animals to create a story about. I look forward to showing students my own
storyboard because I think they will like they I included a piece of my life into it.
