Lesson Idea

Lesson idea implementation:

I will start my lesson by sharing a story of my own using PowerPoint and its audio recorder. I
will stop periodically to ask about key details in my story and at the end, ask about the main
idea of my story. Afterwards, I will assign my students to work with their table groups to
make a PowerPoint using images and the audio recorder to tell one of their own stories of
their choice. I will give them a storyboard script to write out their ideas, and I will check to
see if they include the main idea and key details in a story. I will also give them the option of
drawing their own pictures and adding them to slides or finding some online.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
I will have the students work with their table as a group to create a story and co-use
PowerPoint and recording their voices to retell their story. I will give each group a storyboard
template to write out their story on paper first, and I will ensure it meets the criteria of
students being able to point out the main idea and key details of their story. I will give them
about a week to work on this project in class.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
PowerPoint is a great tool that can support any students’ learning. This tool allows students
to be creative with storytelling. Rather than writing out their story, they can tell me a story
using images and their own voices. This makes learning about storytelling more engaging and
fun for students. The platform also allows the user(s) to include subtitles if needed.
Reflecting on enhanced learning:
The activity for this lesson will impact student learning since they will be using technology to
implement what they are learning about main idea and key details. They will take this
knowledge and use it to create their very own engaging story. I look forward to seeing how
they use PowerPoint to tell their story since it is a fun alternative to making their own story
rather than just writing about something.
