How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply. (Sometimes only one option will
apply.)

☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

X Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:

I will start my lesson by showing my students the audio eBook I prepared called, Amaya’s
Adventure with Light Sources; this will encourage students to be as creative as possible.
While they are watching and listening to the audio eBook guided questions will be asked, I
will stop the presentation to give them enough time to answer the question and go over the
responses. After showing the students an example of what their finished product can look
like, I will follow-up with what they are to do for the lesson. They will be released to do
research on light sources, how light sources are important, and how they could compare
them. Students will then create an audio eBook and present them to their peers. The audio
eBook will showcase 4 or more light sources (they can use one of the sources I listed in my
audio eBook) and have visuals they can choose from provided by Microsoft PowerPoint or
have their parents help them take pictures of light sources that they experience every day
and send them in on a flash drive so they can use them in their presentation. They will utilize
the “Record Slideshow” button to narrate the words on each slide. The students will be
encouraged to include 1 guided question in their digital storybook this will keep them, and
their peers engaged throughout the lesson. The teacher and the students’ peers will provide
them with effective feedback. The teacher will provide glows and grows feedback for each
student’s presentation. After all the students have completed their presentation, we
transition into whole-group discussion where we talk about what they learned, what they
enjoyed, and what they would/wouldn’t do again.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:

After students are introduced to the lesson topic, lesson implementation, and a workshop on
how to work Microsoft PowerPoint, they will begin working on their audio eBook. We will
promote students to tech experts throughout the lesson. This will allow friendly competition
and focus on different learning styles throughout the classroom. The students will work on
this project in class during science block and have 30-40 minutes each day to work on it. As
they get started on their audio eBook there will be two 5-minute breaks after every 15
minutes this will give the students a break from staring at the computer and give them back
some attentiveness. The teacher will provide ample supports to the students by giving them a
storyboard outline to fill out before starting on Microsoft PowerPoint. They will use their
prior knowledge and look up light sources on the internet to gain insights. The students will
collaborate with their elbow partner by asking them questions and remain open to receiving
feedback. To keep students on track we will go over our learning goals at the beginning of the
lesson and right after each 5-minute break.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This Basic Productivity Presentation Tool supports all students and shows multiple means of
engagement by encouraging them to be creative and allowing collaboration between their
peers. This lesson gives the students an opportunity to learn new components across the
board. From light sources to how Microsoft PowerPoint works. By conducting this lesson, it
gives students the chance to choose this platform to create other products in the future.
Students will have a choice on how they want their stories to look and sound, they can use
their own names in the story or names of friends/family. They can select their own visuals for
presentation as well. These things are important because to some degree it does give the
students a voice and choice. This also allows for personalized learning.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

I feel like after designing this lesson and conducting it with students it will impact their
learning by showing them that even though they are working on the same topic there can still
be versatility and differences. I look forward to seeing how the students will design their
presentations and which light sources they’ll choose. I also look forward to having the
students work on Microsoft PowerPoint for the first time.
