Lesson Idea
X Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
X Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
favorite animals need to survive. I will then have my students do research on basic needs of
animals using whichever resources they would like, books, technology, etc. Then, I will have
them create an e-book of their own using PowerPoint. They will then share their e-books to
the class or read me their e-book if they don’t want to present.
Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? I will use time limits for each activity that
the students will do to keep them on track with the lesson and it will give them a sufficient
amount of time to complete each activity. I will also have co-use of computers and in person
lessons with the students, so that they won’t just have to focus on one thing.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The tool I have picked for my lesson, PowerPoint, is very
helpful and accessible for all of my students to use. PowerPoint has many features such as
immersive reader, subtitles and editor that make it possible for all students to reach success
in their work and activities. It helps with student engagement, by allowing them to create and
design their PowerPoint the way they would like. It also helps with representation by having
means to represent several languages and forming to student interests.
