Lesson idea implementation: Write a paragraph describing how the lesson will be
implemented using the prompts as your guide:
I will explain to the class what standard we are focusing on. I will let them know that we
are exploring Earth and its attributes. After discussing the standard and the objectives
for the standard, I will show my story that I created on powerpoint. I will lead a
discussion in which we all compare an original book versus the one that I created. I will
ask them what they liked better and why.

I will show them the cool features that powerpoint has to offer and let them see that
they can be creative and show their expression. I will explain to them that we will be
focusing on using these tools to show our understanding but also making it personalized
to our liking. I will allow them to create their own and introduce the idea of partners or a
chance to work alone. For an introduction, I will ask my students to find 1-2 examples of
Earth’s features and give a characteristic of it. I will go around and scaffold to help the
students and give them pointers. I will conclude by allowing them to present what they
made to their partners at their table.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets
students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?
How will you manage the classroom behaviors on the technology: I will make sure students have a
written plan or storyboard prior to getting on technology tools. This allows students to be confident
and ready to shift their story into digital mode. I will also set our learning goals and refer back to
them so that students know what the target is and know what they are aiming for. Time limits are
important as well so that students can take have time to explore the software and then come back
together to discuss what they learning and what they thought was interesting.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This lesson reflects the UDL framework because it captures
students’ attention (engagement), it provides another way to create a story (representation), and
students are able to get creative in a way that is desirable for them (action and expression

their expression in their own unique way. When students enjoy what they are doing, they are more
likely to be more in tune with it and really get the full learning experience. I look forward to really
seeing their creativity and seeing what they produce. It is interesting to see students learn new ways to
do things.
