Basic Productivity Tools (BPT)

Lesson Idea Name: What is Pollution

Content Area: Science
Grade Level(s): 3 - 5
Content Standard Addressed: S3L2 Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the effects of
pollution

Technology Standard Addressed: 6 Creative Communicator

Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the
platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals.

Selected Technology Tool: Sway

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

☐ Remembering ☐ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☒ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☒ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This supports students by giving them the opportunities to create
something that they make by themselves. It enables them to collaborate with other students across the
world. This engages the learning of the student to let them create something how they want it.
Lesson idea implementation:
The teachers would teach the students about pollution and when that has done the students will create a
presentation. The teacher will introduce the lesson to the students and what questions they would need to
answer when making the presentation. They will have two weeks to complete this presentation in the
classroom. The students will be assessed when the present their presentation to the class by their classmates
and their teacher.
The final product will be used to inform future students and to try to make it different or to make it better
than the previous years. I will extend their learning by letting the create a sway but also letting the collab with
other students about their work. I would conclude this lesson by letting them know what their key point was
and what they may need to work on.

Reflective Practice:
This could impact the student learning by letting them explore their creativity. To extend this lesson I would
let them not just create a sway but any productivity tool they would like a PowerPoint or an eBook.
