X- Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

X- Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for

them unique. They will get to include their favorite activities and things to do, pictures
of themselves and their family, and what they think their personal characteristics are.
The teacher will help students take pictures in the classroom of the student and some
of the things around the classroom they enjoy to add a visual aspect to the slide show.
The parents will send in a family photo for the students to include. After the
slideshows are complete the students will get to present in front of their peers and
show them how they are unique.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
I will show students my own personal slide show that I created myself. I will then each day of
the week guide them to creating one slide a day and help show them how to add images and
text each day for the slide. The first day we will do a five square story board to help them add
and create what they want to put on each slide so that they can have a guide of what to add
each day. I will walk around during this time and provide help and watch over them as they
create their slides. They will do one slide each day to not overwhelm or cause time for
disengagement. Students will be in groups to ask for help from peers and ask for ideas. After
they have made the slide of the day, I will review what my slide looks like and have them
double check their work to see if they have everything that is needed. On Friday they will
make last minute additions and prepare to present.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL

Using PowerPoint to have the students create their own personal slideshow allows
application of each component of the UDL Framework. Engagement will be shown through
students being excited to make something about themselves, the students will get to use
things in the classroom as well as items from home to bring into their slides. Students will get
to feel represented and appreciated through getting to share with peers who they are and
what makes them different. They get the opportunity to express themselves creatively and
create a slide show that displays their personality and identity.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

I feel that this lesson will help students not only have early engagement with preparing
slideshows and presenting, but also giving them the creative freedom to express themselves
and feel proud of something they have created.
