How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:

For the lesson, I will go over dialogue in writing and how it is presented in stories. Then, I will
show the students an example of a story which I created through PowerPoint that contains
dialogue. This will provide them with a guide to refer to when they begin working on their
own stories. The students will be tasked with creating a story on any topic they would like as
a PowerPoint presentation. As the students are working, I will walk around and see how they
are working. If I notice anyone struggling, I will ask them questions which will help them to
critically think about what they are stuck on. The lesson will be concluded by allowing
students to volunteer and share their stories.

Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?
For this activity, the students will work in pairs or groups. Since computer use may be limited,
having the students work together allows for the computers to be allocated properly;
however, it also ensures the students are working together and sharing their ideas with each
other. As they are working, I will go over every 5 minutes the purpose of what we are doing
and why it is important.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The technology tool I selected supports and enhances the learning experiences for students
in the classroom because the students can engage with each other and can express
themselves through their writing. When writing, it is hard to come up with ideas on what
should be written and what direction the characters will be taking in the story. Therefore,
having students engage with one another means that ideas will be spread amongst the group
and there may be one student who knows exactly what direction they want the characters to
take in the story, so they can share this idea with the rest of the group. Also, by using this
tool, the students can express themselves because they are creating their own product,
rather than being told what to create.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

I believe the activity I created will impact students learning because they will work with each
other to brainstorm ideas and discuss the content which was taught before the activity was
assigned. The part I look forward to implementing is having the students begin working on
their stories because I know all the ideas are going to be different and I want to see what
they can create on their own.
