How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

X Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

X Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
Lesson idea implementation:
The activity the students will participate in is creating their own e-Book about sentence
punctuation using Microsoft PowerPoint. The design, theme, and plot/ characters of their
book can be their ideas and creativity, they just must have the overall topic of punctuation. I
will show the students my e-book as introduction to the activity. Students will be aware of
their goals by being given very easy to follow step-by-step directions on how to set up their
book on PowerPoint and what should be included. The students will also be reminded of the

goals and procedures they are to be following daily by the teacher and visible in the
classroom on a poster as well. The students will use technology by completing the activity on
the classroom computers during the allotted time of the school day. This is a project so they
will have time to complete it over multiple days. During the time of the students working on
this activity, the teacher will be available for help and answering questions about content and
possible confusion with the program and technology in general. To conclude the lesson,
students will share their e-Books with their classmates once the project as been completed
and can receive feedback from them. Students will also get feedback from the teacher after
sharing, as well as the fact that it will be graded for creativity and following directions.
Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?
Time-on-task with continued focus on the learning goal (bring students back to learning goal
throughout the project).
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
This activity and the technology tool I selected to support student learning (Microsoft
PowerPoint) will enhance the learning experience for the students in the classroom because
it supports all students at different levels. The students can choose to create a very detailed
book with many pages, words, and pictures, or a short simple book with just pictures. The
principles of the universal design for learning that support my activity are engagement and
representation. Students will be engaged in their learning with the use of a new tool with
many creative options that stimulate and motivate them. They will also be able to represent
what they have learned by sharing their e-Book with their classmates and parents. This is a
different way of showing what they know.
Reflecting on enhanced learning:
I think the activity I created will impact student learning by showing them a fun and new way
to show what they have learned about punctuation and a change to be creative. I look
forward to seeing the stories the students come up with and watching them share them with
their classmates and parents.
